185kw turbo built na6 engine -what do I need?

Postby speed » Mon Apr 04, 2016 7:29 pm

Hi all,
So I've decide to go turbo and have the following.
Begi exhaust manifold.
T28 turbo.
Sump with oil return.
Water and oil lines.
Eagle H beam forged rods. (Came with forged pistons but 2 are scored)
Dump pipe.
Rx8 injectors.
Toyota COPS.
Nitrodann coolant reroute.
MS2.
Yet to source a tube and fin cooler and make my own alloy piping.

Apparently I'd need to run 16psi at 6,000rpm to get 185kw atw.

Will be paying to have the head and block machined and head assembled with new valve stem seals etc.
Crank will also be machined.

Questions below:
1.Before I do this, should I be going for an increase in piston size and what compression are people running?
The forged pistons are 8.5 but should I go higher or lower. Some people have said that even stock 9.5 pistons would be adequate but I'm not so sure and don't want to skimp on the bottom end.

2. What bearings should I use?

3. Do I need to remove a lug to run water cooling for the turbo?

4. Would regular rebuild gaskets suit or do I need something special?

5. Including injectors; how much would an e85 set up cost me (parts)?
I.thought I'd be able to achieve my goal on 98 but would be good to know.

What have I missed?

Thank you very much,
Steve

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Clutch upgrade? Or are you already running something stronger than stock?

Stock to 9 ish on 98, stock pistons and rings are fine if healthy
.

2. What bearings should I use?

OEM is fine.

3. Do I need to remove a lug to run water cooling for the turbo?

Forget the water cooling. But if you absolutely feel the need check the miataturbo wiki

4. Would regular rebuild gaskets suit or do I need something special?

OEM

5. Including injectors; how much would an e85 set up cost me (parts)?

You can easily, if you want to.run united every day just fit a walbro 255 intank for 170 and id725 for 800

What have I missed?

Thank you very much,

Really want an engineered turbo 4.

ManiacLachy wrote:Clutch upgrade? Or are you already running something stronger than stock?

Already have an upgraded clutch :)

Already have a 4.1 torsen. The gearbox is a weak link but I'm a very simpathetic driver.

Is the engine stuff that I want to sort out before I arrange machining.

Bigger brakes, NA8/NB8A minimum.

Also +1 for the V6.

Got those too. Really want engine specs, namely pistons and water line bung.

I posted answers to both.

Leave the pistons stock.

Dont run water. If you have to run water the info with pics is in the miata turbo wiki.

Sorry Dann, I must have missed this post. Really appreciate your responses.

By 9ish, do you mean 9.0:1 and can I get away with a thick head gasket?

If so any idea how thick?

Also would stock pistons handle 16-20psi if tuned correctly?

Thanks again,
Steve

Stock pistons will go deep into the 300whps

9:1 is fine, Id say just use your original ones and rering if necessary.
