Just found in tuning studio:
file - project - project properties - settings - map sensor - mpxh6400 400 kpa

Now the map sits at 99-100 and the car runs nice but still needs a tune. time to wire the lc-2 up ;)

I'm guessing a previous owner has messed with the settings.

Just make sure that at idle it is around 30kpa, otherwise it is still not right

Its idling at 28-30 so I think its right.

I havnt wired the wideband up yet, but i was surprised how much I had to richen the wot values over the standard 1.6 PNP maps just to have it rev nicely.
Maybe the std baby injectors or the airflow meter is to blame. Hope to remove it and get tuning done soon.

Hi all

bit the bullet and ordered an MS3/MS3x (with boost control module and LC2) for my pretty stock engined NA8 (intake and exhaust mods).

the plan is to go turbo with a goal of at least 200kw atw on E85 from a trusty T28 ball bearing jobie from a JDM S15. stock piling the rest as i type.

im also want to run flex fuel. :)

just reading through this thread and am super chuffed at having something like this on hand in case i get thrown some curve balls.

at this stage, ill get everything assembled and running on the car. then start to upgrade bits that can be run with the turbo (injectors, fuel pump, MAP sensing etc).

Just a couple of quick questions
* is anyone using shadow dash with their MS? it looks pretty cool and I'm toying with the idea of buy an old galaxy note and mounting it over the speedo and tach. I'm not too keen on having gauges bolted everywhere and or in the heater vents.

* can anyone recommend a dyno in melbourne that could assist in the tuning? The unit is getting assembled by Alex Barton (not sure what his forum handle is) and he's done a bunch, but everything so far has been road tuned. Im not too keen on this, and it's probably not too much of an issue running NA, but when the turbo gets bolted in, it could get scary. I'm probably looking more for a dyno that can assist in the rolling road aspect as I'd still like Alex to "run the numbers" so to speak.

i think thats it for now. I'm slowly learning a little more about MS each time I read and like I said, its pretty awesome to have this thread alone.

if anyone has any tips or tricks about installing or tuning these things for a bit more oomph on a relatively stock NA8 (and eventually turbo), i'm all ears.

1. I am running MSdroid in my NB as a 'dash' and it works well, just a little laggy, on an old galaxy 7" 2012.

2. Alex=bartmanftw

3. If you want a tuner, talk to Chequered Tuning. But i doubt they would let Alex to tune for you. Chequered are very pedantic.

Quick ms q.

Ms1 3.57 na6
I've set the fuel map for idle at 14.5 AF.
Over the last few days its dropped to 13:1 - so I've leaned the idle back to
14.5.
After i drove to work this morning its back to 13:1 again.

I havent got a laptop on me now, but going by the af gauge, the rest of the map is ok ie the same.

Any ideas? Googling came up with inj deadtime - but thought i better ask before i start putting in random numbers

Here is a link to photos my MS3 Pro Module build. It all went well. I decided to put the module in a standard ECU case and mount it in the factory position. Leaving factory loom and plugs undisturbed. Any new wiring was connected to a new plug, the plug is available from Mouser electronics in the USA. PM for any details you need.

I'm quite still happy with it 10 months on. The secret to doing this is planning, do the research before you start. I'm quite happy to answer questions.

Thanks to glsender for answering my questions when I had them.

Well done. Looks excellent and you've essentially built a $2000 ecu for less than half that!

Yep, it started first time too, did an autotune for about 15 minutes and the car was really quite responsive and very driveable. Took a few logs at QLD Raceway, ran VE analyse, to setup VE table. AFR hit targets no worries at all.

Another benefit is how much I learned about engine management and tuning, it was a really worthwhile project from that aspect too. I pulled a bit of timing out to ensure tune was safe as I'm running a boosted application. When I get around to it I may put it on a dyno to maximise power and torque output, but really there is no real need to do this unless you are chasing every last kilowatt.

Injector Dead Time. (latency)

I've been having problems with hot start which got me researching injector dead time. I'm running RX-8 yellow injectors 440 cc. Part number 195500-4450.

Anyway I came across some info from the rotary people regarding these injectors.

6.5 Volts 2.866ms
7.75 volts 1.901ms
9 volts 1.409ms
10.25 volts 1.095ms
11.5 volts .821ms
12.75 volts .660ms
14 volts .510ms
15.25 volts .411ms
16.5 volts .287ms

Doing some maths reveals

At 13.2 volts the deadtime is 0.6ms

which in megatune converts to a dead time table table of:
7.75 volts 317%
10.25 volts 182.5%
11.5 volts 137%
12.75 volts 110%
13.2 volts 100%
14 volts 85%
15.25 volts 68.5%
16.5 volts 47.8%

Going to load up these dead times and will report back results. I note that at 13.2 volts the deadtime is 0.6ms, which is a lot less than the Tunerstudio default of 1.0 ms

Interesting, back when i was looking at the RX8 injectors, i found a few posts online to suggest your finidings may be correct (or at least, less than 1.0ms is better than 1.0ms):

http://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo-dis ... 689/page2/
http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 7&start=20
http://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo-dis ... iew-67140/

though i never got around to actually trying the settings.

It looks like a longer term project to reduce the dead time to .6 from 1, I tried it at idle, idle went rough and really lean, AFR around 19.5. I'll have to revisit this when I have more time to stuff around with the VE table. Although it will effect narrow pulse width settings more than wider pulse width settings. Something else to play with in the future!

At present my project is redoing my VE table after adding a bit more ignition timing, and yes I am being cautious erring on the side of safety. Adding 4-5 degrees advance makes the car run richer and tuner studio is busy pulling fuel out from the VE table. So far I've only been able to do cruise settings and a few 2nd gear WOT pulls. More time required, hopefully will be able to do more at Morgan Park on the 19th March.

I Really need to find a tuner dyno who is willing to play with an MS3Pro.

I'm stuck in a procrastination loop and I need some sanity-checks, I've read so much nothing makes sense anymore lol

SSD in my laptop died, so my own PCB isn't happening, and Frank did a new run of adapter boards, and I have one on it's way.

Frank's board for those that haven't seen it: http://westfieldmx5.devocht.com/megasqu ... s3pro-pcb/

So, this is what I have:
NA6, A/C, no P/S
MS3Pro Module
Spartan2 WBo2 + Bosch sensor.
GM 3Bar MAP Sensor (Just realised I need a plug!)
GM IAT Sensor + Plug
Toyota COPS + Plugs

I cannot for the life of me work out which TPS I need. The closest wrecker that has any amount of useful stuff is an hour away, and they don't take the TPS off the TB, and they don't take the TB off the engine - so I need to buy a whole engine to get a TPS off them. Pass.

That leaves eBay, and nobody has listed a TPS with "Cus, you need this for your megasquirt" in the item description  Are all of the 3-wire BMW E30 TPSs suitable? (or is there a better/more cost-effective one these days? Cheapest I've seen is about $85 from the UK)

Then, the plan is as follows:
0) Set the car back to 10deg timing.
1) Build up the board, do firmware and basemap.
2) Install MS + VTPS + IAT + WBo2 + MAP Sensor to car.
3) Disable fuel, check sensor inputs + timing.
4) Enable fuel, attempt to start car on stock coils.
5) If car starts, fit COPS, start car again.
6) Wire in Seq spark, start car.
7) Tune car so it's drive-able.
8) Adjust things until car is nice.

Steps 2 - 7 will happen in a day (or a weekend, or less than a week) I'll have a couple of helpers, one with an MS in an Alfa, and one that knows MX5 wiring. (they're yet to find out about this, but they will help, or I'll kidnap their loved ones until they do  )

Is there anything drain-bamaged with my proposed process? (Aside from kidnapping people, I'm aware that that's frowned upon)

You can use this TPS. With some internal mods it will plug straight into the factory loom and give you a vtps. It's off an auto VL commodore.

Guide for modification: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1168 ... 2233581457
You'll also need to shorted the position shaft a bit as well for it to fit.
