Well my day was interesting...

Was disappointed with my first couple of runs, had not much rear grip. Then a lap into my 3rd run I started to hear a clunking noise from my car and then got black flagged. I pitted and found out my exhaust had broke/split in half due to a weld failing and was scrapping along the floor. No worries! I then just slipped it off the hangers (didn't even need to put it up on stands or jack it up) and went back out on my next run and did a PB! For those interested, there was 0 change in my top speeds down the straight. Here's my 5th run of the day which was after my PB run.

I then had a reasonable off between T4 and T5 up the top of the hill during my last run. Thought nothing of it, went back to the pits and packed up. I then noticed than some massive rocks were wedged in between the front right rim and the tyre, which must have lodged in there when I went off sideways. I have no idea how it did not break the beads or pierce the rubber! Thanks to the gentlemen, especially Mark Hellmund, who came down and helped me fix it by deflating the tyre and pulling all the rocks out.

The tyre eventually resealed itself after leaking for a bit, and I drove home with my exhaust in my passenger seat and my ears bleeding from the loud exhaust noise.

An eventful day to say the least!

Here’s two clips from the hot and windy weekend at Wakefield.

I missed my spot on the grid because I was late back from having lunch, so I tagged onto the rear of the group.

This clip is chasing after Ray in his modified SE from the start of lap 1, remember tyres not up to operating temperature. Ray has way too much power for me down the straight. Turn up the volume to hear the throttle back-off from T3 to T6. Don’t do this passing move unless you know the other driver.

This clip is a continuation of the one above and shows the following couple of laps chasing Phil Abraham who’s still getting use to his Vortx.
The Vortx really motors down the straight, I wish mine had this much punch.

Well I had a fun day. Broke down on the way with a main relay melting, jimmy rigged some flotsam on the side of the road into a wedge to lock the relay closed and got to the track. Then arrived late and no garages, thankfully Peter and Patrick let me squeeze my gear between theirs. Which wound up being an awesome spot to park as me, Patrick and Simon just got to talk turbo's and go racing together all day. Managed to overheat and destroy my brakes but switching the relay in and out meant it didn't overheat  . The wilwoods are definitely not enough brakes for a turbo mx5 with an 11.0" rotor... I've destroyed the XP12's completely in 2 trackdays and the friction rings have huge cracks all through them.... very very glad I didn't do the last session.

Thanks to all the officials for running a great day. Was plenty of tracktime for a huge number of competitors. Great catching up with Vic's too, lots of very fast times for people unfamiliar with the circuit.

Awesome to hear the car is coming along amazingly, pat actually suggested more boost when I saw him today, if you would believe that. I think you have scared him :P

probably the first time in my life I have suggested 'no more boost' to anybody haha

Yep, was a nice cool day Tuesday, no wind and high pressure. Perfect for quick times.
