I had thought that a licence (CAMS/AASA) wasn't required for the C&T only but I was wrong. Ordinarily that would be fine but my CAMS licence expires literally 10 days before the event!
I'm thinking I'll just get an AASA licence and hope that future MX5 club events at SMP switch over to AASA regs.
The MX5 Club doesn't control the licence required for SMP, ARDC does, so don't waste your money and risk that a AASA licence maybe used in the future, just get a CAMS licence then you're covered for all events - Supersprints, Club days and FOSC.
I think this “come and try” would be good for a first timer but if you have done Club days or Supersprints you may as well enter the regularity event as the other will be a little tame for you.
Can I just say that if you do go in regularity, be very aware that some drivers use the “send home if you touch panels” rule as meaning “I don’t need to use my mirrors” rule. They have no idea what mirrors are for or that faster cars can overtake them. Take care as there is a lot of puffed up egos in turboed or V8 cars that can’t get through their heads that MX-5’s are pretty quick around this circuit.
The number of runs I got in last years event was four plus a free for all at the end of the day.
