Things work together in unison. When you buy separate products to perform a cohesive function, chances are they won't work as well. The "other abilities" you mention can only be pros for the car. Whereas if you do something on the cheap, things won't be matched, and you may end up making things worse. Of course the chances are reasonable that it won't be any worse, but if you're going to spend money, things should be improving, not maintaining the status quo. Otherwise what's the point of upgrading?

Besides, your name is only a re arrangement of the letters, so you should just get them to have the bragging rights of "yeah, I got shocks made with my name on them" :P

i'm not sure if you believe in reasearch or not? or maybe i have too much time on my hands to reasearch, basically tein SS are a package yeah? well basically with a matching shock and spring combo you want/need to figure out how stiff you want the spring rate, what spring rate the shock can handle to get it right.

Doing things cheap doesnt always mean its bad, whether its buying used or buying an item lower then another. With the logic of whats the point of upgrading, your going to need to spend ALOT of money in your sence to "Do it right" in your standards.

Tein SS arent an Entry coilover, and as i stated i dont believe that azntien needs such a coilover, he obviously doesnt know what other features it has other then height adjustment. If you want to stick to teins, why dont you just get the Tein basic? 949 racing sells them for $600, shipping give or take $200, installation give or take $200, $1000 and you have height adjustable coilovers installed, and if i didnt know what the SS did, i'd reasearch the hell out of it, even before i consider spending such a big amount of cash.

Sasso wrote:If you don't spend enough then the new suspension that you are going to get is going to be worse than stock equipment and that is just pointless. If you're gonna lower your car, do it so that you actually improve performance or at least maintain. Its like buying cheap 17's, yeah they're bigger and might look better to some but they're not going to be as good as stockies.

You want to spend 2k to lower your car because thats how much it costs to do it properly, otherwise there is compromise, and thats fine if you're OK with it, but most people aren't.

mmm, i agree with not spending enough, but you dont need 2k to do it right. with the 17's that all depends on the owner, most people here think its suicide to do so, but some hate the small stockie look, i'm sure you have noticed that their isnt any fully sick people on this forum :)

i believe you dont need 2k to lower your car properly, JUST lowering your car and not have any other functions (maybe damping) you can get such a setup for under 1k. i couldnt care less if he wants to blow 2k on something he wont be using to its potential, its not my money. i'm just trying to give him some advice as ALL HE WANTS IS LOWERING.

ofcourse, when you put new shocks in your car they will feel so good. how many kms have your stock shocks done? if they had the same kms, i'm sure you would have such an OMG they are so good factor.

That price is a rip.

I'm getting jap spec ones for $1300+ $200= $1500 all up.

for $2.3K installed you can get Tein FLEX + EDFC+ install.

I'm assuming you got quoted for Aussie Tein SS with uppermounts?

AZNTien does do autocross/motorkhana stuff, and the coilover suspension will benefit him.

I don't understand why you spend money on your Automatic mx-5, obviously you have your reasons, and so does Tien, he wants to do it right the first time, and not worry about it 1-2 years later, when his shocks go bust

let's keep it civil boys, Tien was merely asking a question, he doesn't require you guys to have a pillow fight over your own preferences.
Tien is a young guy who's looking to more experienced people to give him solid advice about the best options for his car, if spending a bit extra means he gets what he wants plus added benefits, so be it.

How much does the tein system lower the car exactly? Because the 5's already scrape pretty easy if you not careful (which I am! Lol) How different is the lowest and highest setting on the coilover from factory?

That's indeed the correct mentality to have. However the benefit of super streets is that all the work's been done for you. You don't need to try and match up shock to spring as it's already done. You need only check the overall result and it's done and dusted.

Most definitely not. Tein super streets aren't cheap new. I bought my super streets second hand (thanks again irwin  ). It's possible to do things right and do it at the right price rather than an expensive price. You just need to be patient.

So Tien, has your head exploded with all this advice yet? :P

It's not that they necessarily bust shocks... they shorten the lifespan
The thing with suspension is that springs and dampers work together... and when you change one without the other (as is the case with adding lowering springs only) the dampers are now dealing with a situation they were not designed for, and are stressed more and thus will wear out faster

Like in a week or so of fitting Kings to the NA in my case....I call that busted/blown.
