Im saying that whats being sold has little to no heat insulating properties.

Its heat resistant, but not insulating.

Are there many companies offering coatings, and are those coating ceramic based? Yes.

Are the coatings available commercially actually able to improve heat retention and performance any more than high temperature VHT, No.

Ring the company and ask what coating they will apply, the go and look up the manufacturer.

Here is an example of a true high performance insulating coating, as seen in use on F1 headers many times. This is not what you get for 200 bucks at the towns 'ceramic coating bloke'.

Look its as simple as this.

if you want to spend 400 dollars and have nice looking parts, go for it, if you expect to feel a difference or somehow fix overheating parts, you will be disappointed in whats offered by the guy in your city advertising ceramic coating for a few hundred.

Perhaps you are correct....not many people provide full technical details of coatings they use
however....the Company in the link I've provided has sucked in a lot of people more connected to the industry than me

They do a number of other coatings as well....some are more expensive...but have different properties
I don't believe every ceramic coater in Australia is a Dud....or everyone in USA with a fancy web-site with a lot of tech names for the coatings is on the money
Many claim to see benefits .....???
Image

and the point I've made is their price point isn't that much different to the USA provider.....and they don't advertise a price
you ring them up and discuss what you want and they give various options/prices for consideration

Sure "Supercheap" wrapping is cheaper....and will reduce heat transfer....everyone can (and will) make their own choices

Properly done with correct coating ceramic coating is a solution....who does it at what cost using what product is a different discussion

I dont have to be convinced that ceramic coatings have their place, Im literally about to post a manifold out to be coated right now as soon as I hit send, but improving performance and lowering temperature in any ways that matter at all, not what I expect or have experienced.

Question to Lokiel; I think u had some coating done on your manifold? Did it reduce under bonnet temps? Can u touch the manifold after being parked for 10 mins?

This might be "Bullsh3t"....it might not?

http://performancecoatings.com/customers-data/4392438

but there is not a lot of independent data available

If there is independent data showing it has no real benefit....I'd love to see it

"It has been determined that engine efficiency improves by 1% for every 10° degree drop in under-hood temperature.
If we were to use the above data, we could reasonably assume that we would obtain a 50 horsepower increase on a 500 horsepower engine."

Lol, 50hp with ceramic coating.

Come on, do we really need to go and get proof that this is garbage. Do you trust people who tell you this stuff really?

No....for most people you don't need proof

I don't need proof....

I would like proof(either way).....that would be nice.....but I don't need it

Just hoping someone has a graph....that shows hp/engine bay temp or something similar from a respected Automotive Engineer...:)

There's a reason that every company that sells this stuff doesn't have it.

This debate has existed since ceramic coating got popular, and yet still no coating companies post any proof.

Just as a counterpoint. My exhaust wrapping has reduced temps a lot... so much so that I can work comfotably next to the headers without the risk ofmelting my arm if I touch them. And the SS hasn't rusted or melted.

The ceramic coating looks pretty but I'm not sold on how effective it is.

Just weld a sh*t ton of fins to each pipe and duct some air to them.

Cool it Volkswagen style.

I agree with madjak. I can touch my fibreglass wrapped headers, but not ceramic coated ones I've had.
But I don't know if the coating has some effect or not.
