Adaptronic launch control and flat foot shifting

Postby dzammit85 » Mon May 30, 2016 3:12 pm

Hi, I was reading up about the Megasquirt, and read an article on launch control and flat foot shifting, I have an nb8b with a select ecu, and I've searched around about these 2 things, I've the anti-lag topic on adaptronic website, though it doesn't really explain much,

Can launch control be set up seperate to the anti lag, or are they meant to be set together

Does antilag allow you to flat foot shift, if not then does the select ecu for an nb8b support flat foot shifting

And if my car isn't turbo can I still set these functions

Just curious as I'm taking my car to the track for the first time, and it would be nice to have these features on it

Thanks

The whole point (or most of the point) of ffs is to prevent the BOV from opening to help boost build up faster after the gear change. I don't know how much benefit you'd get in an NA car.

Ok, I read the adaptronic article about antilag, it explained that it was for boost, though I thought also having it on an na car would lead to quicker shifting

About all it does on a nat asp car is put extra stress on your clutch/gearbox as the box drags the revs of the motor down after each change.

You actually want the revs to drop slightly with each gear change so the next gear engages smoothly.

Ok, I was just about to ask about that, thanks,
So what about the launch control would that be worth it, or do I have to set both

Launch control is only useful for a standing start.

I have never seen a track day with a timed lap from a standing start, always a rolling start where launch control will be useless.

As for the speed of gearchanges, this has very little to do with the engine, or ECU.

Anti-lag is just to stop turbo lag, it plain and simply just keeps the turbo spinning for the moment between changes.
Flat shifting is simply so that you dont need to lift the throttle during gearshifts. I doubt it would be of much benefit on a car with a standard gearbox other than meaning you dont need to concentrate on the throttle.

Flat shifting usually works by having an electronic switch that cuts the power for a moment during shifts (usually a switch on the shifter)

you'll still need to clutch though during changes, which is frankly where the speed loss is, and is why proper racecars tend to use dogboxes which can allow clutchless shifts (faster) with less damage than a regular synchro box.
Try the same on a synchro box (like the OEM one) and you're likely to find out the cost of a gearbox rebuild the hard way.

If the ecu is clever enough to have a lowered rev limiter when it detects clutch input, then this can be achieved.

Then they can set the 'shifting' rev limit to 4500rpm.

Ok, thanks for all your help, I thought this may have been something that I could do myself in the wari software, I will wait until I do another tune on the car and speak to them then
It will get tuned when the turbo goes in, in the next 6 months, so it will be worth my while to do it then anyway
Thanks again

Hi I have Adaptronic launch control set up on my NB8B . It is easy to do . Just go to road speed in your wari and enable( launch control rev limiting) Set your rpm and road speed cut out and fuel or ignition cut. Give it a go lots of fun.

Hi, actually did do that yesterday, I left the revs at 3000, cut off speed at 10km, I cut fuel and ignition, and then wrote all to the ecu, it didn't work
I was under the impression that when you set launch control and you clutch in and accelerate at the same time that the revs would stay at what you set them at, is it something else that triggers it to work

Do you have a reliable mvss input into the adaptronic? My mvss is all over the place.

This video is of a boosted car running Mega Squirt, but there is lots of information and examples describing what you're interested in.

Hi, I'm pretty sure my mvss was set correctly, i didn't tune it myself, i got it professionally done, I'm gonna have another go at it today and see how I go, there is one thing I can think of that may have made it not work, which is that I was parked on a hill and had the hand brake up when I was testing it, so I'll give it a go on a flat surface
Also I seen that video the other day, I like his channel, he explains things very well

Ok mvss is set correctly I just took it for a drive with wari running, the speed in my dash is reading the same as the software, rpm is good also, and TPS is reading fine too, I tried it on a flat surface with the handbrake down and it still didn't work
