Who is a member of the MG car club Newcastle?
Hi!
So as topic says, anyone here a member?
I've been depressed by looking at m5 sitting in the garage just waiting to be dríven at the track, and Newcastle is closer to me than Wakefield and I thought my 5 may be fairly competitive in hill climbs.
so anyone here a member? whats Ringwood like?
How often do they run hill climbs there?
cheers!
Chris

my son Ken (chrons_rotary on here) has been a member for a few years, campaigning an rx7 until last year he changed to an mx5.I've enjoyed watching him and the people there are friendly.I recently had a go at it myself at the "come and try day" which they run once or twice a year.great fun in an mx5(although I was barely going fast enough to even have to use my brakes seriously).there is a hillclimb towards the end of this month I think.

Re: Who is a member of the MG car club Newcastle?
I am.
It's tight, mainly 2nd gear, but technical & fun. The extended course was opened in the middle of last year. There is a vast number of course variations available, & Cams have just approved another 4 or 5.
A hillclimb is run almost every month. We have a lot of work removing fallen gum trees, caused the big storm, before the hillclimb at the end of this month!
You'll find, along with other info, a calendar here:

I live with a committee member and can see the clubhouse from where Im standing in my kitchen.
The track is super technical, and far more difficult to master than it looks.
If you want to race against the mx5's you will be up for a challenge there are some quick guys including Ken (chrons_rotary).

Depends on what class, i run the NAMS Type 3 over 2lt, due to mine being turbo, and reasonably modified.
The days are always fun and everyone is easy to get along with and helpful.
Each year we run a 4 round championship (The Tri-Challenge), competing with Tamworth sporting car club and Kempsey sporting car club.
One round at Kempsey, one at Tamworth, one at Ringwood, and the final at King Edward Park in Newcastle.
Though there isnt usually too many at each event (less than 50 at the first 2), the final is always booked out (70+ competitors).
They usually run a normal hillclimb once a month, as well as the occasional motorkhana.

To add to what chrons_r said,
With an MX5 you may have a couple of choices for class you run:
1. Marque sports modern, with subclasses under 2L (n/a) or over 2L (f/ind)
2. Type 1 or 2 or 3 depending on mods, with subclasses under or over 2L

Do you need to be a member to take part?
I didn't find out about Ringwood until after I joined the MX5 club, and I'm not keen on paying more than I need to, so avoiding a 2nd club membership would be great, if it's possible.

No, just need a Cams L2S licence & meet usual safety/scrutineering requirements.

Re: Who is a member of the MG car club Newcastle?
We called in to Ringwood on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm to say hello and they were tidying up, passed the last competition car on their way out. Seems like an early finish?
The new track is still piles of mulch from when the trees were cleared - anyone have any news of what is happening with it?

Looking at the results, I'd say the competitors had had enough - some had done 8 runs!
As for Ringwood Raceway (not Ringwood Hillclimb), I'm told that the EPA is the hold up at this stage.
Cheers

Re: Who is a member of the MG car club Newcastle?
Well,
I might get around to joining this year haha
I see there is a come and try day on March the 6th. If any of you members have more info or know who I can contact to give it a go that would be tops.
lol @ Dann - I said 'my 5 may be fairly competitive in hill climbs.'
didn't say I will be competitive and I'm always up for a challenge! I'm not expecting to win classes or break records, I just want fun and meet some like minded racers!
Speaking of classes, assume its similar to Cams supersprints? I fall into 2B.
