Water line that runs through t/b and oil filter plate

can all this be bypassed by a single line from the thermostat housing to where this hose finishes at the rear of the cylinder head? or even just deleted?

reason is I'm going to fit s skunk2 t/b in the near future so that means bypassing it at the throttle body cause the skunk 2 doesn't have the inlet/outlet for it. and I assume it only runs through the oil filter plate to help raise temperature for colder climates? same as the throttle body.

I plan to replace the existing water/ oil filter plate with a typical oil sandwich plate to wire up aux oil press and temp gauges.

any help advice would be appreciated.

also best water temp sensor location besides top rad hose?????

My NB race car has the skunk2 t/b.
I dont remember the setup though.
If you dont have an answer by Saturday, I can look at mine

They can be freely bypassed/deleted. It's there to accommodate the more extreme weather and really not critical.

Was worried if I deleted it it could restrict flow or create a block somewhere.

When that oil filter plate is removed the thread is too long for the filter but I'm figuring once the sandwich plate goes on it'll be the same as before.

I figured all this is much easier to do this while the head is still off the car.

I just shortened the existing hose and joined them with an 8mm hose connector:



Originally I assumed that the purpose of passing water through the TB was to cool it when in fact it's quite the opposite - water flowing through it is intended to heat up the throttle body for extreme cold climates. Not too many places we need that here in Australia.

I had read that in your thread when i was searching earlier.

Was just seeing if others had totally removed that line all together.

I'm worried I'll have clearance issues getting an oil filter on and off if i was to fit the sandwich plate ontop of the existing "oil warmer" haha. Im Not interested in a relocation kit at this stage

Plate under the oil filter is for engine oil cooling according to Mazda workshop manual. Don't know how much effect it has though, & obviously depends on temp. difference between cooling water & oil.

If you live in the alps, then yes. Australia this feature is not that important. If you life on Honshu or Hokkaido Islands in winter, then it probably is.

It isn't a cooler and it isn't a heater. It is a regular. The attempt at keeping the oil temp at a specific range. It won't work in extreme heat or cold conditions.
