Apart from extending 3rd party and getting a helmet, what else do I need to do or bring?

CTP extension as we discussed this morning
Helmet - kitchen saucepan will NOT pass!
Long sleeve shirt long duds, Levi's fine
Covered footwear - no thongs or sandals
AASA Licence - can be obtained from the Office on the day - for one day or a year
Indemnity form - download from the Club website

For 15 July a FULL tank of fuel!

As I said over coffee this morning Kev, you will do fine and have a great day!

You will be fine :) Im going to come along to this and have my first track day with the mx5 forum and this will be my very first time out on the track at Lakeside so I wont be pushing too hard. Im really keen to get the mx5 on track. Getting brakes, fluids and tyres organised from now.

Kev & Rhys

You will both have a lot of fun!! I was so slow at my first one I set a target of 1:20.00 - if I beat that I would have been satisfied. I did, and managed to get a final best of 1:14.19

That was on KU36's and the suspension etc was all set up - there will be lots there to assist you, Lakeside is one of the most technical tracks in Australia 'they' say, and is unforgiving! It's wise to get the feel of the car first off, learn the entry and exits for the corners, set braking marks etc

Exactly right, Iv seen way too many pictures of road registered cars (and race cars) all banged up from a misshap with a wall at Lakeside. I always said Id never take any of my daily dríven cars out on that track as it would kill me if anything happened but Im keen, Just need to drive to your abilities and knowldege of the race track and conditions on the day. I should hoefully be in the NB stock class as suspension etc will be stock just new brakes and good tyres etc. Cant wait :)

New brakes or upgraded brakes? Upgraded brakes can be classified as modified as per rules below. Excerpt taken from http://www.mx5clubqld.com.au/?page_id=35

MX5 Class delineation wrote: If you have upgraded the capacity of your brakes you are modified. Performance brake pads will be passed as standard but if you fit larger calipers and or bigger rotors you are classed as modified.

You will also need to factor in cost for either hiring or purchase of a timer.
$80 to buy or $20 to hire with $80 deposit

Unfortunately James, QR rules dont allow for passengers during timed sessions.
But sometimes, if time permits, a 'sighting' lap with a passenger may be allowed before the timed sessions start.
This is done with no helmets and 'road' speeds.

This will be decided on the day, depending on how many Noobs attend, and at the CompSecs discretion.

Otherwise you will be fine, you simply build up your speed as you would on an unfamiliar road... that you lap multiple times

It's not a club decision anymore. Qld Raceways have pretty much pulled the shutters on passenger "instructional" or "guidance" rides due to liability issues. A comprehensive pre-drive briefing is now given to first timers and Doug Chapple makes himself available to go with people as an experienced instructor.

The thing to keep in mind is to treat it as a spirited drive and work your way up slowly as you feel more comfortable and practise the correct lines.

Try to be a hero on the first day and you're inviting grief.

Noob may also not be the best word to describe people who have never done a club track day before. Calling people noobs may even discourage them for trying it out, the club fosters a high participation at your own pace environment and not forcing people to push themselves to loose a 'noob' tag. Personally no matter what my car and I will be capable of doing in the future I will not be going into the clubs' group 1 because of the environment of sheep stations at all cost and it is way too competitive despite this being discouraged. My plan is to door to door in 2014 and so far the people I have been speaking to have been very helpful and have not been treating me as a 'noob'.

A "noob" is a person who is new or inexperienced in a subject, usually an online game. Noobs are usually annoying and excessively stupid. Do not confuse noobs with newbs, who are inexperienced players that tend to be more mature and strive to become better.

I don't believe there was any offence intended with the term used for a new or first time participant - who are always most welcome. I'm not sure where you get the impression that it's sheep stations at all costs either.
