The new membership cards should be printed next week.
I will be giving Zan the updated financial members list before the event.
So if you are financial there will be no problems.
If not get on the web site quick.

I've discussed it with Mike and yes everyone will receive clarification of requirements well before the event. Suffice to say that what happened at the last one will not happen again.
Mike has confirmed via email that he will be circulating a note in the near future re cameras and GPS units in cars. In a nutshell, suction cups and other camera mounts will be accepted and need to be fitted prior to scrutineering, and you should arrange some sort of secondary restraint in case they come loose. Simple and sensible.
I've just spoken to Mike and can confirm what Bryan has said in the previous post. An email will be sent early next week on this to entrants.
Basically camera mounts will be check at scrutineering. A secondary restraint will be require encase of mount failure to stop the camera flying around inside and hitting the driver.
Cars with cameras will receive a tag to identify that they have pass inspection.
I’ll be running a Go Pro for the first time and have found that if I remove the wind blocker there is a neat recess to permanently attach a mount that allows the wind blocker to clip back into place when the camera isn’t installed. I’ve glued and screwed the mount down but still need to add the additional restraint.
Looks like it’s going to be another hot one going on the long range weather forecast. Still that's better than a wet track.

What suffices as a secondary restraint, cable ties?

Phil if your Go Pro is anything like mine then expect massive glare off the windshield having it that far back. I gave up and put mine on the front windscreen so you could see where the car was on the track.
Hayden if the regs are like supersprints then a zip-tie from the camera suction cup to an air vent was good enough. That's all I used to do, the idea was just to make sure the camera couldn't interfere with the driver in any way if it did come loose.
Have fun guys, my car is still in progress so I'll be missing this one.

Now there's a surprise.

Re the secondary restraint on cameras
Yes cable ties will be fine. It's only there to catch the camera if it falls off, to prevent it going under the drivers feet. It will also be a "recommendation" not "mandatory". There will be some camera/GPS mounts that are industrial strength and never fail OR too small to be a concern OR it's impractical to attach a secondary restraint. Having it as a recommendation gives Mike a bit of flexibility to allow exceptions ... much like the situation with tall drivers in MX-5s that have no rollbar.
Importantly, all cameras/GPS must be fitted in the car and checked at scrutineering.

I used cable ties at the last track day, and they were accepted then.
Since then I bought a couple of safety tethers from Camzilla, in Lindfield
http://www.camzilla.com.au/products_info/mount-accessories__safety-tether
BTW, I had a pleasant chat with the husband & wife who own Camzilla while I was there to get the tethers, and they not only drive an MX5, but also have half an MX5 in their showroom to demonstrate mount options for cameras etc. Recommended.
If enough people want to use these tethers, I am happy to grab a bunch, and bring them along on the 20th?

Re: MX-5 Club Track Day - Wakefield Park - 20th January 2012
I too received a GoPro for Xmas.
I have used their stick on mounts. One on the front window and one on my helmet. The looks I got while driving around the streets with a helmet on were interesting.
Even though these use the same tape that is used to hold cars and buildings together I will be using tethers as I don’t want to lose the camera or have it airborne while I’m driving.
I have even screwed a mount into the grill area which gives an interesting low perspective.

I need your keen analytical skills, if you've got any time whenever...

BTW it looks like its a full house for 20th Jan. Zan is still takes names for the reserve list. Mike is limiting this one to 70(ish) drivers to give a bit more flexibility fitting everyone into the 7 groups.

Maybe not. Does a total fire ban shut down Wakefield Park?Charlie Brown wrote:Looks like it’s going to be another hot one going on the long range weather forecast. Still that's better than a wet track.

Thanks mate,I appreciate the tips.
Deen is out due to new tyres conflicting with his cars balance and alignment, not because he forgot for once
