MX-5 Club Track Day - SMP South Circuit - 27th October 2012

Postby Guran » Sat Sep 15, 2012 5:54 pm

The MX-5 Club of NSW will be hosting our first ever track day in Sydney on 27th October. We will be using the new South Circuit of Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly known as Eastern Creek Raceway). Entry forms and Regulations have now been posted on the club website. There is now an on-line registration form which extracts the details for regular participants from a database. Works very nicely!

Preferential opening date for MX-5 Club members is today, and is eligible for the early bird entry fee of $140 (early bird closes 12th October). The general opening date for entries is Saturday 22nd September 2012. Should the maximum number of entries be exceeded (80 plus 5 reserves), then preference will be given to members up to Saturday 22nd September 2012 and then in order of entry date received irrespective of club members or guests.

Note that you will still need to print a payment form, complete your payment details and email/fax it to Zan. The payment form is available as a link at the end of the registration process.

Scrutineering requirements will be a bit more strict than is the case at our Wakefield Park track days:
  • CAMS L2S or L2SJ licence (or higher) required (AASA licence not accepted)
  • current club membership card of a CAMS-affiliated Car Club
  • fire extinguisher
  • blue battery triangle
  • clear protective film on glass headlights

Refer the Supp Regs for full details.

Entered!

The online form is great and presumably even better when online payment is sorted.

Yep, that online form is nice.

Too bad I will be missing this, and the Final round of the Supersprints the following day, as I will be on Airplanes to the States.
Guess my next track event won't be till December.

Keen to try this. First time on this track. Though when I filled the online submission form on Friday, it (form) automatically put down a time for me. Was this calculated based on my time in Wakefield?

Great! Can't wait for this! Couple of questions... the blue sticker for battery and protective film are they provided at the event?
Can someone please make me a fire extinguisher brace or give detailed instructions on how to make a compatible one! :D   :P 8)
cheers!

I mounted my extinguisher and bracket to a small rigid aluminium panel, which was mounted across the floor of my passengers seat using OEM seat bolts. I think Regie was making a bracket up for his NC? maybe he can give some insight?

Triangle won't be supplied, you can get some blue contact, a magnetic P plate, cut the contact into the triangle then stick on the plate. Place on the car on the day, seal with tape and wollah!

That is your Wakefield time. None of us have a time on this new circuit so the grid sheet will be based on our Wakefield times. But I'll be able to tell you later today how that compares with south circuit times!

I initially thought that. But my time at Wakefield is high 1:16s. The time it gave me on the form was 1:07. Thinking due to the shorter distance of this track, 1:16s in Wakefield must translate to about 1:07 on this track.

Looking forward to your feedback from this track.

You can get a ready made one from MX5 Mania. Though @ $50ea, not sure if that's too exxy for a piece of cut metal. Nontheless I bough one for my NA. It's been fitted for nearly two years now with no problems. It's within easy reach from the drivers seat, plus if you have a passenger, it's out of the way. Though I might paint it matt black when I get a chance.

On a side note, I'm paid and signed up, although I didn't get an automated time, it stayed at 0. I won't be worried yet, but hopefully others have insight?
