Ohlins, OMG!!

Postby Sailor » Tue Sep 27, 2011 7:19 pm

I bit the bullet a month back when the dollar was at its apogee, and while GWR had a special on, and bought a set of Ohlin DFV for my NC.
Installed them today.
I thought I had a great ride with my std springs and Tokico HTS adjustables, and it is compared to the std suspension, BUT the Ohlins are absolutely amazing!!
The car is taught but still compliant enough to take speed humps at speed without crashing or leaping around.
Turn in is so fast it's almost frightening!

I'd heard the reports from people with them including Brian Goodwin but I was still dubious about the extra cost over the many other coilovers that are around....Could they be THAT good?
They are...and well worth the extra. :D

Do glad they worked out for you, did you have to keep the stock tophats or fcm bump stops, or was the units complete?

I concur Sailor! 8) I have them on my RX-8 and after previously having Tein Super Streets there is a very clear margin between their performance. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Danny

ps. I also have a new set for my NC race car which I can't wait to experience once it finally turns a wheel under its own power.

I've been saying this for years now and now at least two NC owners are backing me up.

Required the stock tophats and associated bushes only.
After I get things sorted I'll see if a different set of bumpstops are required...somehow, after initial impressions, I doubt it. :)

Danny/Les....I'm a believer!!

Doesn't surprise me. I took part in a focus group for another leading Euro brand years ago, and on the quiet, the rep admitted Ohlins was the benchmark.

Are there any reviews here of Ohlins being run in na/nb cars???

Given the wrap they are getting I may just hold out extra long and go for these on my na over the ground control koni kit...

I would of loved to get ohlins, but couldn't afford it.

So i settled with BC gold series, the improvement over stock is nothing short of sensational.

Hey Kris what settings are you using on the road now?
I've backed the fronts off to 10 and the rears to 14 (unloaded).
Will try the fronts at 12 next week.

BTW 7 F&R is too soft for the track but you can just drive over all the ripple strips without the car stepping offline.
I can't see this getting dramatically worse with firmer settings, the DFV system works!

Awesome,

I've got fronts on full minus 10 clicks and the back on full minus 12 clicks.

I have only tried running them 2-5 clicks back from full hard (recommended by US track guys) for a few days as the roads around here are pretty bad..... can't wait to try them on the track, were you pleasantly surprised over the weekend?

I haven't cleaned up the holes in my strut tower brace yet.... (hopefully i get around to it) but i don't have to use the supplied allan key.

Next time i got to get a better look at your car in the daylight! Especially want to check out your PF01s :)

Damn looks like these things are becoming common...Well done you! 8)
BTW I now have mine set at 22 F and 24R around Sydney streets for commuting
Probably a tad under damped but nice ride.
Dear has noticed that the car "turns quicker" but hasn't mentioned anything about the springs being much firmer so shock settings are pretty close.

Front bar is on the softest setting and rear is in the middle.
Only problem is that on some driveways the inside rear wheel lifts off the deck but the car is beautifully balanced.

Well you've convinced me ! Mine were ordered today.

Maybe we need to set up a separate thread called Ohlins Street/Track settings and compare notes !
