Custom Work Meister centre caps

Postby bear2230 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:50 pm

Hi All,

Just ordered a set of Meisters from Jesse and will be here end of Jan and I want some caps.
I have a five axis CNC lathe so can make these easily.
All I need is the hole diameter and to see how they actually sit on the discs.
They will be made from marine grade aluminium and will come off machine looking great. I'm thinking a light press fit with a slight undercut. Should hold on forever.(hopefully)
Could someone provide me the hole measurement or better still meet me at my factory in kogarah and I can measure myself.
After I have designed and programmed in the cap dimensions they will only take a couple of minutes to each to produce and anyone helping in the design will of coarse get caps free.
I think there is quite a market for these things and if they turn out good, and I'm sure they will I will start selling them.
The only ones Ive found were made from cupcake tins. if I cant make something better than them I'm in the wrong game.(Someone might have said that to me in the past just quietly)

The cup cake caps looked good though. Ours will be better.

I would suggest buying Mazdaspeed caps would be cheaper than a special order for 4 caps.
At a guess I would say $200.00
Machine is charged at $120.00 / hour

Well that went well... I couldn't measure the centre hole because I couldn't fit the vernier caliper inside the wheel (too much dish... lol ). Good luck with it!

Too much dish. That's a contradiction in terms...lol
Will need to be measures with telescopic gauges and a micrometer or a small digital vernier. Probably from the back would be easiest.
Also need to know thickness of lip and if there is any room from the disc face to the back of the rim for a retaining lip for the cap. I'm hoping yes but need to know for sure..

No that's good Sliq, it does show me there is a undercut in the rim which we can use to hold the caps in. That makes it much easier make and secure caps. I can get started but will still need to see you for a measure. I will shoot you a pm when I'm next working if that's ok with you.

i know the wheel bore is 54.1mm (hubcentric rings). maybe if you get them from Work, that'd be a good starting point?

OK so the Meisters are here and I have made a sample cap by hand from marine grade aluminum.
They are a hubcentric ring as well and are held in the same way.(between the wheel lip and the hub)
This means the only way to take off the cap is to remove the wheel. Hard to steal unless you steal the whole wheel. mmmmmm
I will test on my car next week and post the results. I’m pretty happy with them though. Off the CNC these will be unbelievable.
