MX5 Challenge Rd 4 - Oran Park GP Aug on SPEEDWEEK 23/08 1pm
Hi all,
Garry Willmington has invited MX5 Challenge NSW to race at the upcoming I Race event at Oran Park GP circuit on 14th (Friday) and 15th (Saturday) of August.
This 2 day meet will consist of the following format –
MX5 Only race
Friday -
15 minute practice
15 minute qualify
1 x 7 lap race
Saturday
3 x 7 lap races
Depending on time they may be able to increase laps on Saturday to 8 or 10 laps per race.
Additionally you can enter a 2nd category (Muscle Division) for NO EXTRA COST. If you assume you will do 10 laps each in practice and qualifying and minimum of 28 laps of racing that’s 48 laps. If you choose to enter the 2nd class and get around the same you could end up doing just short of 100 laps at one of the last meetings ever to be held at this iconic circuit.
Now for the best part –
Cost of entry is just $395 and includes TV – yes that’s right the IRACE series is telecast on SBS’s Speedweek and FOX Sports. To the best of my knowledge this will be the 1st time a MX5 race has been shown on TV - so now’s the chance to get the best exposure for your sponsors!!!
These are the details for the Irace series - http://www.irace.net.au/ and this is for the event - http://www.irace.net.au/calendar/2009r4/index.html
Entry forms for the event can be found here and online entries are accepted - http://www.irace.net.au/admin/entryforms/round4.php
This IRACE event will be held 2 weeks after our next MX5 Challenge race at Wakefield Park on August 2. It is important that we support both events as the AASA group went out of their way to help us get started and have always given MX5 Challenge NSW fantastic, affordable racing opportunities... I for one will be doing both these events and I hope that you will join us as well.
If you need any additional information please let me know,
Chris Gough.

After last weekend I think CT has a 4 1/2 speed he can do you a deal on but you might have to call out to turn 3 at Morgan Park to pick up 4th gear

I knew it wouldn't be long before you'd be tempted Chris

I certainly am, just need to sort out when I'll have the car on the track and what else will be a happening around that time.
The entry form was a bit vague re licencing. I'm assuming we can race on our CAMS licence Chris G?

Hi guys and gals,
There has been a HUGE response to this event and it looks likely to be a 30 - 35 MX5 field including those pesky Queenslanders looking to get their faces and cars on TV.....
Now for some housekeeping matters -
Licence - CAMS or AASA acceptable (competition) not L2S. If you dont have either or only have an L2S then IRACE can issue you with one of their licences at a cost of $165 + a medical. If you have no race experience they can conduct an OLT (observed licence test) on the Friday and if you are deemed ok you are ok to race. These are pretty straight forward and you just need to show you have some skills on a track (except if your Cal, then you just slip the guy $50 to make sure you pass.....
)
The medical forms are here - http://www.irace.net.au/admin/assets/Me ... nation.pdf
IRACE logbooks will also be required for your car (yes I know it's a pain to have so many of the damn things but it's a small price to pay!!) The application can be found here - http://www.irace.net.au/admin/assets/Lo ... cation.pdf which you can complete and bring with you for the event and they will be issued on the day. If you want to get it sorted before hand just follow the instructions and send it off to IRACE and they will sort it out and send it back before the event. Cost of the logbook is $20.
The 2nd race catagory we can compete in is called Rocket Sports - and as mentioned, this is at no additional cost!!!
The guys at IRACE are very keen to get involved with the MX5 racers for this and future events. Let's show them some great support and hopefully work towards a great future with their events both here and in QLD.
If you need any more info please call me or contact Rod Dale at IRACE direct on 0412 785486.

How long does it take to get the AASa license?
Im thinking I'll get this as most of the MX5 challenge is done throgh AASA and the MRA series?
dont think its worth just getting the IRACE license for the day!

Just call it rocket sports on the application for the logbook. As for the entry circle rocketsports and write MX5 next to it in big writing and it will go it both catagories for the entry.

We participate in CAMS, AASA and now IRACE events so there is no easy answer. CAMS and AASA only want their own stuff whereas IRACE will use either a cams or aasa licence ok, but need their own logbook. Its a pain in the arse all these damn books but what can you do.....

Chris,
Not sure how it works down there, but here in QLD we can race at all meetings with a CAMS licence ( $395)and just a AASA Clubman licence ($55) for insurance puposes. The CAMS licence will come in handy if you ever want to run any of the FOSC (including Bathurst) or Prodsports events, because they will not accept a AASA licence as far as I know.
Just food for thought.
Paul.

Hey Paul,
At this stage, I've got a few mates who race in the MRA series down here, so I think next year thats what I'll be doing, and all that comes under AASA.
Unfort I dont see myself doing Bathurst of FOSC for a while just yet!
I think I'll go the AASA license for this one, and get the log books done.
