I've got the PP2s on my car, much better handling than either the standard Toyo Trampios that came on it new or the Yoko AVS ES-100's I had on it after the Toyos. I did replace the soft-as-solder Racing Harts with the standard NB8B 16's so it's not a fair comparison. 16's and PP2s or Yokos are a long way ahead of 17's and toyos for handling, particularly on a slightly bumpy surface.

I got about 40k out of the first lot of the PP2's before they got too close to the wear indicators for comfort. They were always great in the wet or dry. I haven't used them on the track, but hearsay suggests they might get a bit squirmy when hot.

Agreed, the 17" PP2's deliver a better handling drive in the dry and wet compared to the 17" OEM toyo's. The 17" OEM toyo's are a little bit more comfortable then the 17" PP2's when it comes to bumpy surfaces.

I got about 40k out of the first lot of the PP2's before they got too close to the wear indicators for comfort.


Wasnt that long ago i rotated mine @ 10k, plenty of meat left on them.

I was asked this question just the other day.

Previously in a forum post the bridgestone RE001 rated as good as if not a fraction better than the T1-R. But the T1-R is $100 cheaper per tyre. :?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I am running the 205s.

If your looking for info as to why wider tyres do not give you better grip, have a looksy here

If you plan on lowering the car with 17"s, know that 215/40s will increase the inward and outer widths by 5mm each.

How much are the RE001s in 17\"?

I know for 16\" its around $200

And for 15 its around $135

i know bob-jane are selling RE001 in 16' for $190 at the moment. Since k-mart tyre and auto also sells this and matches + beats the price by 10%, you could get yourself 16' for $171. Maybe try that?

That was on my final set of Yokos a week before they were replaced. Yepp, getting a little hairy by then. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Hey but you got the experience of going sideways down Mount Dandenong.

$294 :shock: I paid $210 including NRMA discount for 215/40/17 Adrenalins' 2 months ago from Jobson's in Caringbah. Give them a try. Did not include alignment though.

16 months ago I got some prices on PP2s from Blair’s (they were a few dollars cheaper than Bob Janes) were $238 for 205 x 45 x 17, $255 for 215 x 45 x 17 and $320 for 215 x 40 x 17.

215 P Zero Nero was $325.

I'll be in the market for a new set of tyres in about 5 months time and this time it will most probably be the PP2s.

I'm not to sure if my current T1-Rs improved with age or that I just got used to the soft sidewalls and sloppy handling. Now with 25K on board, I’m expecting to get another 5K out of them which is about the same as I got from the PP1s but the PP1s had 6 track days on them as well. Also my standard engine is obviously producing more power as it ages :roll: because it's getting easier to spin up the rears. :D

Or the tyres are crapping out with age. I couldn't get any traction off the line from my T1-S's after they were about 1/2 worn out. Dont even mention their wet weather straight line traction.....or lack there of.

Having said that my current PP2's are having some traction issues at the moment as well. I'm not sure if it's worn tyres, new engine tune, the cooler weather or a combination of the three, but there's not much grip off the line at all compared to when they were newer or even my old PP2's.

You will find that the 45 series is a lot more comfortable.

205x45x17 Dia. = 616
215x40x17 Dia = 604, Speedo reads 2% faster than actual
215x45x17 Dia = 626, Speedo reads 1.7% slower than actual

Rim size is OK for any of these tyres however your shockies will work better with the 205s due to the lighter weight.
