And we all know why Queenslanders call their beer XXXX.

It's just that they can't spell BEER.

Hey all, I haven't yet been to a dodgy day, so I hope to make this my first. I haven't got anything to do to the car, but would like to come along and meet some more forumites and put some names to faces. I'll see how I go on the day, but I hope to see you all there.

Caffeine, you have PM :D

Thanks
Ian

Well, all bits are either here, or on the way. Picked up bearing grease, axle stands (a second set so I can have all 4 wheels up at once), engine oil (didn't realise I had a full one at home, oh well, spares for the future), wire brushes, blowtorch, cold chisel (for the bearing lockrings) and wheel bearings.

On their way via post are oil filter, suspension bushes, brake fluid and brake pad guide plates.

On the day, bring what food & beverages you want, I'll have an old bar fridge set up as an ice chest and an electric BBQ (it's underground, pretty dodgy with a flame BBQ I think...)

Is the Bevan timing belt change still happening? I think my idler/tensioner pulleys are on the way out and it would be nice to watch Bevan work out how to replace everything so I can do my own at a later date. I did half a timing belt change on my NA so have a pretty good idea about what to do but I'm not sure what to do about the VVT hardware on the valve cover of the NB8B's.

timing belt & lining up the Timing belt is a piece of cake. Forgetting to tighten bolts is the hard bit. cause then you have to spend 90 min pulling everything back down again & putting it back togther.....
don't ask me how i know.......

If Bevan is still doing it...... just make sure you have all the correct torque values on a piece of paper before we start. with no complications.....2.5 hrs max. first time around took me 6

Only painfull bit I found was undoing the lower bolt on the water pump inlet.

just so i dont forget...count 19 teeth on the timingbelt for double checking

Yep, sure is going ahead! I got all the parts in the mail 2 weeks ago EXCEPT... I need another Camshaft Oil Seal (I thought 2 came with the purchase seeing as there were 2 in the photo), and the waterpump gasket (MX5 parts ran out of them).

Better call Mazda I suppose... :|

Well, looking at about 13 cars at this stage!

Sounds like most people are just there to watch (they like to watch....) So we should have no trouble with room. We'll have room for 4 cars worth of major / long work (timing belts, bushes, wheel bearings etc) plus room for 2 cars worth of minor / quick stuff (oil changes etc)

If anyone has folding chairs, bring them too, I have ~7 or 8 chairs plus there are some old garden benches there to sit on.

If anyone forgets parts / tools on the day, don't worry too much, there's a robbos, a repco, a supercheap and a few smaller places within 5 minutes of my place.

Ordinarily yes, but I've been turning the garage upside down for the last 3 days looking for mine :(

A nice micrometer adjustable one it is too...
