
Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2

Andy, this dealer I went to sold Falken, Pirelli, BFG, Michelin, and a couple of others which I wasn't interested in and can't remember right now....
I told him I wanted a 'sporty' tyre in 195/50/15, mostly street use, but also occasional track use. While tyre life is a consideration, wet and dry grip are higher on my list of priorities. So I acted dumb and let him recommend something, and he went straight for the BFG g-force sport. He has them on his HSV ute and tells me that he has no problems with the tail stepping out in the wet, as opposed to other tyres he has used on that vehicle. Basically, he gave them a big wrap. I then asked specifically about PP2's, because of all the praise they seem to attract here, and he basically said that they don't out perform the BFG's in any area. The BFG's apparently have a slightly softer compound, so tyre life might be a little less, but he hadn't found them to be noticeably less.
This is actually the second tyre seller I've heard recommend BFG's - the first was for a mates car, and the guy selling them used them on his new M3, which came with PP's on it from the factory... he sold both aswell...
The BFG's are also well priced - $129 vs $179 for the PP2's.
I'm not necessarily recommending the BFG's or bagging the PP2's, as I haven't dríven on either, just relating what I have heard recently.

My SE has PP2s fitted.
Dry: 4/5
Wet: 3/5 (my SE is a little tail happy in the wet) Perhaps im asking a little to much of the tyre in the wet.
Cornerability: 4/5 Stiff in the sidewalls and turn very easily.
Comfort: 3.5/5 Seems like a hard compound and doesnt absorb bumps all that well.
General Comments:
Grip and corner better then the OEM toyos that came with the SE, however they arent as comfortable.

M3s don't come with Michelin Precedas from the factory, they use Pilot Sports.
The BFG gForce Sport is their mid range performance tyre. The Profiler is their high performance version.

Well there you go, I stand corrected. The point was, he thought that the BFG's were better than the Michelins which came on the car new.

Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to getting them and seeing how they go. Hopefully I'll be able to corner a spot for the next track day too.
In the end, I decided the quality of the Michelins will hopefully be an advantage over time, compared to the BFG's, and a couple of others I was considering. I don't think I will be going too far wrong by getting these

p.s. don't you run silly 15's or something too.....

Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

Well I'd better follow up with a quick review I guess 
So far, very happy although probably haven't given them a really hard drive yet. Have had a little bit of rain use, which showed a big improvement over the old tyres I had - which wouldn't be difficult
Dry grip seems good, but as I said, haven't pushed them too hard yet.
One interesting point though, and imo a good reason to buy PP2's... My previous set of tyres (Eagle F1's) required weights on each wheel for balancing. The Michelins have only required one weight on one wheel - 10g. I'm glad I paid the extra for the better quality construction of the Michy's, and their performance seems good as well.
