What we need is a day where everyone gets together and just tries out all the tyres. Just bring some stands, and people can just rim swap with whatever tyre they wanna try.

Well, if everyone gets together and donates use of their rims/tyres, then it'd be reasonably fair. So long as there's a reasonable rotation of everyone's tyres, no one's will get particularly hammered.

Let's be realistic. We'd all hammer the cr*p out of everyone's tyres, even our own, but it would be fun.

And therein lies the beauty of it ;)
In the end, we'd all have a much better understanding of which tyre would suit ourselves best, which is the whole point really. Worth a bit of rubber burning.

Besides, unless it was on a track, you wouldn't be hammering it that hard.

T1Rs are not a good compromise. They are undoubtly a good street tyre but thats it.

well for the sake of it.....if you are seriously thinking of getting T1R's......err I'll be happy to put my tyres where my mouth is. I would be happy lend you my tyres for 5 laps or even the regularity at wakefield.

T1R's aren't the answer unless you are getting a seperate set of tyres for track.

but then if you're still convinced T1R's are your tyre...... I will accept your decision without calling you a fool.

Re reading your first post if your after a 'combo' tyre then the V70A's that Casey mentioned or the Toyo RA1/R888 or might be a goer.

That said it's a compromise doing it that way...as your street tyres will get knackered at the track, been there done that.

Get some T1R's in 16 inch for the street and some R888's in 15 inch on 15x7's for the track and do it right the first time! :!:

I had some R888s on the car for a couple of days and couldn't stand it. Oh the noise - like having a blown diff or stuffed wheel bearing.

At least the V70A/V700s have a reasonably quiet tread pattern with only the faintest of humming.

edit - I was also told that the V70A/V700 doesn't suffer from heat cycling to the degree of most other semi's.

I bought my V70A tyres second hand, did a Wakefield track day and got low 1:15s (2 second improvement) then enjoyed them on the street everyday for 18,500km :D

Compromise is the word.

You'll end up with tyres that wear out quickly on the road and perhaps not be so safe in the wet, yet you won't get the ultimate performance on the track either.

I guess it depends if you're racing against the clock or want to piss up against the wall with everyone else's best \"track times: ?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
