What is a reasonable price to pay for the Tein Flex and the Flex SS?
Are the Flex that much better than the Koni/Kings setup that I currently run?
I must admit I find the Koni/Kings setup very stiff but I am waiting till I hit the track to start playing with the shock settings.

Mx5 have a problem with suspension travel especially in the rear,with the flex you can lower the car without changing the travel...that is the main reason I bought them...SS are about $1800,Mono flex are about $2700...

Flex have stiffer spring rates...but still not too harsh for road use.

Always comes down to money...Koni/king are a good start but there is a big difference as you spend more money...if I could afford it I would have Penske or proflex but then you talk about $2.5K+ per corner.

Our local MX-5 specific workshop is doing Flex for about $2,500
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I picked my flex up off a guy via the Tradin Post. His dad had bought them back from Japan. I paid way less the the going price. 8)

That way you could advertise your prices etc.; looks like you could get some great parts for forum members.

This might sound like a noob question, but why do the super streets not come with upper mounts? How much do they cost with upper mounts?

Unfortunately I'd say super streets are a way off yet, but they're on the list.

Are the TEIN SS or TEIN Flex legal for street use? I seem to remember someone saying they weren't street legal. Is this correct? Maybe Im confusing it with something else?

I'm led to believe the Aus Spec SS is. My personal opinion is, regardless of what you have, you'll still get a defect if the police want to defect you. Even if you have an engineers certificate they can still defect you. How can you tell if it's Aus Spec or not? I'm sure you could tell them they are, but they wouldn't care. An RTA place wouldn't know the difference either. It could be a good thing, could be a bad thing.


Sorry to say mate but the TEIN SS is the only legal street useable setup in NSW, because of some thing called a clevis clamp or something like that. The part you can adjust the hieght of your car and still have the entire damper movement.

This is the reason I didnt go to the flex. I can get into enough trouble without giving some boofhead the right to tag my car un road worthy.

Hey Im telling you what I was told, pull your head in for a second if I dont know what the technical name is for a piece of metal and a bolt, Im sure if i showed you an Iscsi interface you'd have no idea!!! It is the clamp or whatever the part that holds the holds the \"shock\" damper body thats adjustable other then the spring platform, this is the part they where talking about...

If you think Im bagging your product in anyway, get stuffed and look under my car!!!!!!

Im just saying what i was told by the australian distributer.

The SS are fine for street use.

please explain, ADRs???. If the dampers are legal in NSW then the engineers at the RTA would have given a approval for this fittment. In\" theory\" once one state gives approval the other states will follow, re: exhaust stacks up or down on trucks.,(except NSW, their a weird mob) ADRs can only be approved by Federal Dept. If Mazda fitted these dampers to any model mx5 then ADRs would have to be obtained, I doubt very much that a distributor would have the money or engineering depts to justify ADRing one range of dampers. having worked for Jap manufacture doing ADR compliancing I know the cost and paperwork required, upwards of $1,000,000 for a complete new model range. Anybody with the paperwork and nouse can have state approval for aftermarket parts but with such a small market why would you bother! Re:signs in accessory shop etc, fitment of some parts may make you vehicle illegal for street use.
