Since this old thread has been pulled up, and I am sure some other people have tried the pp2's also, can anyone who has used both these and toyo T1R offer an opinion on both and how they compare?

What size are you quoting for Andy?
I agree with Garry that you listen to other's tyre advice with a reasonable amount of prejudice. I have bought expensive tyres with high expectations based on all sorts of reviews and good words - only to be dissapointed. If the car is similar spec/ mods to yours, and you take it for a test drive and like it - then that is the only way to be pretty sure you will get what you expect. Your car could still run a different wheel alignment/ tyre pressure combo, and totally change the experience... so be prepared to play with it a bit to get it right!.
If you are getting the Michy's for 205/45/16s then the $198 is about $30 a corner better than I was quoted 12 months ago. I would be interested to know where you get them from for those $; they could be the next replacements on the SP (thats the same as I paid for the T1Rs - which I am still very happy with some 30000+ks later!).

edit: just saw that you are looking at 15" tyres in another thread... not having shopped for them I can't add any value to your deliberations.

I was quoted $198 a tyre for 195/50/R15 at Tyre Plus Brookvale ... called up Bob Jane in the same suburb and they do the Michelin PP2s for $160 a tyre
So I ended up going with Bob Jane instead, I still think they can go a bit cheaper somewhere else but I had my reasons for choosing the Brookvale area

Michelin PP2s are on and so far, I am loving it
Compared to my previous tires, the PP2s are quieter, grippier and more comfortable ... they are basically better in every aspect
So far they are good and grippy in the dry weather, the next few rainy days in Sydney will be suitable to test their capabilities in the wet
Will keep you forumites up to date with this tyre, although keep in mind that I am not using them for any track days ... strictly road tyres for everyday driving

The heavens opened in the past 2 days and I get to test the PP2s in the wet weather
PP2s seem to handle and grip well in the wet ... Wet braking is also good and so far all is well ...
I've yet to see how they'll go with continued use, they are still practically new with only 200+ kms on them

I 'upgraded' from a Pirelli Monza something or rather (can't remember the brand)
The previous tyre was a 205/45/R16 and I have 16" wheels on them
My non power steering NA8 Clubman just made the whole experience with them worse somewhat (i.e low speed manouver, parking)

My tyre choices came down to the following at the end:
Toyo T1R, Michelin Pilot Preceda 2 and Yokohama S-Drive

The PP2s is the dearet amongst the 3, but so far I have no complaints about them

they are a top of the line road tyre Mr Q, i'd hesitate to kill them on a track, as with their grip levels, they'd heat up enormously with the stress of a track day........same old story, heat cycles are the killer with track use, i'd be using a less expensive tyre that i could afford to rag out for track days & keep the michys for street use........just my opinion

Here’s my times around Wakefield with your selection bar the Yokohamas.

R-Spec 1:13.48
Michelin Precedas P1 1:15.08
Toyo T1-Rs 1:17.14

There is no comparison to the R-Spec tyres for track use, as I discovered last Monday. For the financial controller’s peace of mind, may I suggest that you look at getting second hand R-Spec tyres and an old set of rims for track day. It’s well worth the effort for times and the saving of your good road tyres. It ended up costing me $500 for rims and tyres for a 1.6 second reduction in lap times.

The lap time for the Toyos was on a hot day so read into that what you like but I should say that I had my bottom spanked by another NC running Michelins at the same meeting. That’s what prompted me to get the R-Spec tyres as I hated the fact that……...well I’ve discussed my feelings on T1-Rs elsewhere.
