About half the price of a turbo kit for about 1/5 - 1/4 of the gain.![]()
Yep, you will get a great turbo kit for 1500 bucks
It can be done.

Check out RMS Motorsports. I don't have anything to do with them, but surfing their website, they can get the Tomei Poncam camshafts for the NA8, NB8. Don't know how much though.
But they advertise on their website that they can get all sorts of MX5 stuff. I love the look of the HKS bodykit for the NA series MX5's. Similar to what I already have, but I like the HKS front nose better.

Whichever japanese vendor you buy from should be able to give a better price on the Tomeis since they're likely to do a lot more volume from Tomei (because of all the Nissan stuff that they make) than Maruha (which will prolly be nil!).
Good luck, future fellow Tomei fans

Re: Cams.. Discussion, which may lead to a cheap group buy
Ok, Im a little bit late to this thread but here is my 2c.
In my car, Tighe 805c cams have pretty much given me near stock bottom end, slightly better midrange, and strong power out to about 7800rpm.
Along with porting (this might have made a big difference), intake and exhaust and computer, im now making 101kw at about 7500rpm.
It ran like crap before the ECU though, big bottom end torque hole and idled like arse, we did get it to run OK on stock ECU, but the cam timing we had to run to do that pretty much lost all the power gains the cams made though.
Also Id have to check with russellb, but I think we are running wilder cam timing than specified by Tighe

Re: Cams.. Discussion, which may lead to a cheap group buy
Ok I'm running
Tighe 935c
thats duration of 272 with 9mm lift I think.
standard ECU rpm inceased to 7400.
cam timing In:4 advance. Ex: 2deg advance
Idle on about 1100. Idle is bad on cold mornings. But once warmed up is great. after about an hr running in peak hr traffic she sometimes goes below 1000 everything splutters & shakes.
she seems to labour on gentle take off but once past 4000 it becomes very lively.
haven't put her on the Dyno since taking the adaptronic out but she's running a lot better now than with the ECU.
I never got my head around the tuning. A lot of it was guessing. Drivability was crap. I was never able to get decent vacum either. no matter what I tried. On power she was fantastic. transient throttle I never got sorted 100% fuel consuption was staggering.
yes a 272 can run on an OEM ECU. Ocasionally I do get a stumble just under 4000 rpm when cruising. but that's it. Not perfectb but heaps better than I had with the ECU.
I could never afford for someone to fix the adaptronic for me. Some people whose judgment I trust were suggesting pro's were never going to be much better than what it was. I guess I'll never find out.
yes maybe one day I'll get a piggy back....not sure.

Yeah, good revival, I hadn't seen this, thanks STM.
There are a couple of mentions here (by CT and MX5-DriftFury, I think) about converting HLAs on NA8s to solids. I'm sick of HLAs. How is this done?
