Offset is basically the distance between the centrepoint of the wheel and the actual wheel hub.

Basically it determines how much the wheel \"sticks out\". AFAIK, stock 16in offset is 40mm, and so whether another set of 35offset wheels will fit depends on the width of the wheel. If it was the same width as stock, then the extra 5mm wouldn't make much difference but it would rub if it was say an 8in wide wheel.
