(VIC) Sandown Sprintday 19/8/06

Postby glen73 » Sat Aug 19, 2006 7:55 pm

well i popped along for a look at this event. i saw some very nice clean looking mx5's.
i meet up with a guy from another forum called Bruce.
i was hopping to see Juffa but could not site him. it's hard when you don't know the faces.
i meet a guy called Chris and Randy.

all seemed good and inspired me to buy a harness on the way home.
i think this is something i would like to get involved in at a later date.
also saw a Beamer run into a fence.

Hi Glen, I didn't get there until around 1.15pm and then left just after 3pm. Were you still around then?
Look like the boys were having fun out on the track........well except for the owner of a BMW M3 that had a bit of close encounter with the armco  .

looks as though they were having too much fun i think, i left at around 2 i think. i looked for your car on the way out but i must be going blind.

you have to feel for the BMW owner as it is the last thing you would want but on a plus side it mainly looked cosmetic.

After looking at all the neat MX5's yesterday i have started de-ricing my car as it was attracting to much attention i think. so the big wing is gone off the back as well as half the gauges etc.
i guess i forgot how good these cars look without all the fancy stuff.

Does anyone know how much it costs upfront to do the track days besides the S2 licence and club membership etc.
i forgot to ask this yesterday :)

nice day today just did a spirited drive up \"Arthur's Seat\" to try out my new harness and also before all the tourists get there as well.

have you done any track days Juffa?

Hey Glen

Thanks for coming a long and supporting all the rev heads

A few of us were out the back briefly and saw your car. Somone commented on the wing and said how fast you must be to need that kind of down force. I noticed you have some sort of ram cold air intake through your indicators too. That would be an advantage I'd think.

The costs are

Club membership (on the website) and Cams ($85)

The day varies between tracks and clubs.

A Club run Deca day - $70 - to a BMW Phillip Island - $200

The average is about $130

Then there is wear and tear on tires and brakes and of course fuel.

Love to see you out there.

It seems the Vic club is very lucky to have someone like you Andrew taking all those wonderful shots.
Thanks Samselectrics for giving me the info on the prices etc.

I was parked behind the MX-5s that were sitting under cover. I did notice a MX-5 with a large wing, but didn't realise it was yours. I have tried to keep mine externally standard, don't want to attract the wrong sort of attention. Its only after you lift the hood or look underneath that you can spot the differences.
As for track days I have been on the track and skid pan at DECA a number of times, and been to Philip Island/Winton to watch the guys....but have not been on the tracks. Hopefully next year, once Tweety is tuned properly I may take her on the track.
