On the NA 8 adjustment model, 1 is equivalent to stock and the other 7 settings are firmer.
On the NB 4 adjustment model, from memory, 1 is slightly firmer than stock and the other 3 settings are firmer still

I've had the KYB AGX $600 units on for a few weeks on an NA with stock springs, average tyres.
Control and comfort is far, far better than clapped out stocks. Started with 2 all round - softish, felt like about new stock; went to 3s - felt good; 3 front/4 rear - even better, fixed up push understeer. Went up to 6 front/7 rear at DECA back track - flat out in third and drifting - very nice control.
Basically you can find a setting to suit anywhere with them. Takes less than a minute to reset all 4.
