I'm having problems with height difference, it's about 5-10mm higher on the passenger side...

But this is the best side right now, not fully lowered at the front, so it sort of like a see saw.

Yeah it's not a genuine colour though, resprayed/powdercoated, but quite a good job.

Any advice on 16 or 17 inch rims plus semi-slick tyre combination that I can use on my 1,000kms per week daily user with the tyre sidewalls sticking out beyond the rims so I don't need to think quite so hard about keeping away from kerbs?

Why a semi slick tyre?

1000km is quite alot, and will wear out the tyres quick smart, and the noise for daily driving will be too much.

Also 16 and 17" semi slicks are quite expensive.

But hey if you are fine with all the above, more power to you

Depends if you want genuine quality wheels, light weight, cheap made, and also depends on the looks.

Yup, 1,000ms per week is a lot, but at least I get to do it in an MX5 in a beautiful part of the country.

Won't do anything until the existing tyres need replacing.

I see what you mean about semi slicks being noisy and expensive and wearing out quickly.

Want the wheels to look right with the car. I like the standard 17s that are on it apart from them being very vulnerable to being scuffed. Dunno if they're heavy or light. Can't really tell how well they work at the moment since the suspension had to be raised for VIC compliance and it drives like a drunken whale till it's dropped again. No need for any future wheels to be genuine Mazda. Just want them to be less vulnerable. Could that be done by choosing tyres with an edge beading? If so, which tyres?

Marketting gumpf usually says something like "rim protector" (in the ad for the tyre say on the company website)

And if that fails... maybe pick a tyre 10mm wider than you intend? Crude... but should work with little consequence
