I appreciate this is a little of topic.
I am querying how much data is recorded on a normal track day. The reason I ask is that I need to get a mobile broadband data plan. Plans rane from 2 gig, 4 gig and upwards.
cheers novice1

IMO 2 gig is heaps Ron.
Dunno what you want to 'download' at the track, but i can tell you, although i use my local network wireless while at home, i dont hesiate to use my 3g iphone while out and about. And never get anywhere near the 2 gig limit.

Only data I gather is from 'Harrys Lap Timer Pro' [do that when I get home] and the new in-car lapceiver stores all lap times! I haven't worked out how to download from that as yet, but it holds 2800 laps! I've worked out 'with a blunt pencil] I will be almost 126yo by the time I get to that 2800 :!:

MINX is the expert there Ron

BTW, not 'off topic' this page/thread/whatever was created so those interested in 23 July can ask questions, make comments etc, so keep firing any enquiries you have!

Love to see us break 50 entrants at the next one, so far this year the numbers get better and better!

Definately YES!!! Bring as many of your friends as you like, NO entry charge either, simply drive thru the gate, park [enough room in the pit area under cover] and wander around :!: It took me almost a year to get the nerve to have a go, slow at first but slowly getting my times down with lots of help from ALL those running, much appreciated! Last week we had quite a few new first timers at QR, you DON'T have to run flat out and cars are grouped in accordance with lap times, that is group 1 are the 'fast' guys and so on down to group 4 [dependant on numbers] and in that group you go out basically first run and then the organisers see who is faster and let them out at the front of the pack

You will have a great afternoon, most start turning up around 9.30am with action starting around noon after Drivers Briefing

Bring along your picnic basket although the little canteen was open last meeting for pies, coffee, drinks etc

If you have never been to Lakeside before, it's adjacent to Dakabin Railway Station and the entry road runs down thru the middle of the Pine Rivers Golf Club, it is signposted

Anything more you want to know just stick another post here and someone will see it and reply

Look forward to catching up Kev :D

Not sure I can answer that. It requires a phone with GPS facility, I use an iPhone 3S, then I downloaded the 'app' thru the Apple store

Maybe best to google 'Harrys Lap Time Pro' and read up on what it can be downloaded to. I don;t think it can to an 'android' but best read up first - I'm NOT technically minded by any means, maybe the DUMBEST around!! Everyone has to show me :!:

While the 'lapceiver' I purchased from QR last week that shows in-car lap times as you go, 'Harry' runs continually and flashes the lap time [ie: 1.11] shortly after you finish the lap whereas the 'lapceiver' is instant. I found at QR 'Harry' flashed the time just as I entered turn 1, not the best time to glance at it!

As you have probably read, one good thing about 'Harry' it will give you sector times [QR Clubman is not installed on it yet] so at Lakeside you can break each lap down and see where you are making or breaking it

If you do have an iPhone with GPS, it's only $19.99

Now I'm going to google and have a read :!:

So that's where it is. I'm often wonder why someone left a well designed track abandoned. Of the times I've dríven to it, the gate is always shut.

Roll bar - no
Standard seat belts - yes
Novice - yes

You need a helmet, cotton long sleeve shirt, cotton pants and shoes. You will also need 3rd party letter. Also make sure your car has had a service and your tyres and brakes are in good nick. You will also need to increase your tyre pressure. Other more experienced people can add more information on the tyre pressures.

I did my first track day not long ago, you will more than likely get put in a group with similar skilled drivers and this gives you a chance to enjoy yourself without being under pressure from people who want to go fast.

All in all it is a fun day and just by talking to people about how they drive the track will also add to your day. I dropped almost 8 secs from my lap time from the start of the day to the end of the day :)
