Re: Sydney Motorsport Park NSW Club Class Records
Was that time on treaded tyres? If it was, I'm seriously impressed. 4B allows slicks but the records here refer to Type 3 regs on treaded tyres. I'm pretty confident I could get close to that record with some more track time, a good surface, and a set of decent slicks - but not on A050s or any other semi unless I can find another 15-20% power/torque.

This was the only decent lap I managed to get on the GoPro before it died. This was my first run and I was still searching for braking points, the right gear, etc. Managed a 1:47.7 on this occasion.

The Relative Unimportance of VMax ?
This lap was Richard's Snowie NB8B with the Unopened Honda K24
1200+ kg with driver
around 180 rwkw
OEM Aero ie none
it had awful suspension on it though that day a bit of a handful, tyres were old used Hankook Slicks.
For others using VBOX would be interested to see which sectors the time comes from.

Crikey. 1.47 is a good time (and I note you can do 1.46s), yet you only seem to be hitting 180something at the end of the main straight. I hit 200 and can only manage 1.53s. Bugger. You must have some aero and slicks?

No slicks - only A050s (which are a damn good tyre). I am running limited 2B-compliant aero consisting of a plywood under tray and an eBay APR replica wing. I have some aero improvements in the pipeline but with one income, one baby and another on the way, I don't have as much time or $$ to spend on the car as I'd like

OK, changes to records from yesterdays event are not posted on page 1.
I could only find three changes. David with a 1:49.662, Luke taking back his SE record from Tony with a 1:50534 and Scott with a 1:53.256.
if I have missed anyone, please let me know your car model and class.

First car meeting for Dan.
First sub minute MX5 on the South Circuit.
First MX5 into the 58s.
MX5 NA.
Thanks to David and AJ at MX5 Mania and a special thanks to all those unsung heros that make events such as last Saturday possible.
Stuart...

NA* Well done on the times as they are super quick and I don't see any mx5's getting near that for a while
I really like the car and will be keen to see what it can do at Wakefield but it is kind of in a class of its own
Class 11 bug eaters?

Re: Sydney Motorsport Park NSW Club Class Records
The classes are based on the old supersprint classes, types 1, 2 and 3.
I'm not sure what the car in question was so can't comment on whether it would fit into any one of the classes. I believe that current Class 1A/B cars would fit into "type 1", current Class 2 or 3 cars would fit into "type 2", and current class 4 and SV would be "type 3" - but one of the most experienced heads may be able to clarify.
Sub-59 secs is really, really quick. Would LOVE to see video of this lap!!

Re: Sydney Motorsport Park NSW Club Class Records
Wasn't Dan in the same car that Todd set the record 1:00.25 on 12 April 2015? With SR20DET? I don't see why Dan's new record won't be included in these records when Phil gets around to updating it.
BTW the Porsche Club were at the south circuit on Sunday. Only two of them were quicker than Dan. Interesting to see that my new PB of 1:08.2659 in my stock 10AE on street tyres was faster than almost a quarter of the Porsche drivers. Fast cars / slow drivers.

Thanks Chops but the car is only half the story.
Dan is one type of the driver we all hate as he has the natural ability to turn up at a new track in a new car and get in the ballpark within a handful of laps.
10 years in karts running against some now in the V8 Supercar main game has honed those skills.
Regarding the car it complies with MX5 Club Sprint Championship rules of which the Victoria & Tasmania chapter has a well written document of such rules.
One thing we did notice on Saturday was while the South circuit is relatively simple the physical effort required without power steering (and a diff designed to get you out of corners and not into them) is high.
We now have a better understanding of what MotoGP riders are saying when talking about arm pump.
While the open car is quick on slower circuits it present significant challenges above 200 clicks as there is a lot of dirty air over the rear wing plus the passenger side generates more downforce than the drivers side..We are already running different rear ride heights on each side.
We have a lot of work to do to stabilise the car at high speed.
Cheers Stuart..
