Where are those entry details Craig? I haven't received an email yet. Definitely didn't enter the races!

Charlie Brown wrote:Can I just say that if you do go in regularity, be very aware that some drivers use the “send home if you touch panels” rule as meaning “I don’t need to use my mirrors” rule. They have no idea what mirrors are for or that faster cars can overtake them. Take care as there is a lot of puffed up egos in turboed or V8 cars that can’t get through their heads that MX-5’s are pretty quick around this circuit.

I've seen your video on YouTube from last year, Phil. Ridiculous driving from that bloke in front.

Cool should be a few mx5s there, good to see. I will try and take the camera and get some pics of the mx crew.

Hi Craig
I have done lots of laps around the GP circuit but hope you can give me some tips about driving the Amaroo circuit on Saturday. I understand that there are no car shelters at this circuit but do you know if there are any accessible electric power outlets so timers/cameras can be re-charged? I noticed a Matich on the entry lists so better clean my rear-view mirrors as those cars dominated sports car racing in the 1960's/1970's as they were essentially aluminium clad open wheelers usually powered by big engines such as the Repco V8.
See you Saturday (& Sunday if you are entered for both days).

Hey Bill
I am not the one to give you tips, all at sea on this track! I did a morning of supersprints there a week ago before being shunted off by a lughead in an rx7. But to that point just didn't feel comfortable, hopefully can improve this weekend!

Re power / shelter - Nope - nada, nothing, bare empty asphalt. There may be some power points in the control tower, cafe section on the ground floor but there may be competition for these.
I am down for both days, look forward to catching up then!

I am Canberra-based so my wife & I will have a very early departure as I would like to do the 7:30 track walk and hopefully get some advice from one of the masters.

These scrutineering requirements are starting to get excessive, particularly given it's aimed at first timers in the Come & Try event.

Steel valve caps - never heard of them being required elsewhere
Battery triangle - not required under AASA regs
Gloves - not required under AASA regs

I can scrape by but I'm feeling bad after convincing a mate to give it a go and now face all these extra requirements. I appreciate that it's their event and they sign off on the way cars are scrutineered but it doesn't seem in keeping with the "come and try" and get into motorsport to have newbies having to go above and beyond standard regulations.

Fair point.

You can use blue plumbers tape for the triangle. Gloves seems excessive, did you query that with them?

I emailed Charles and he confirmed. They're required for race events but AASA regs don't require gloves for anything lower. I guess they've just gone for consistency across all competitors.

Anyway, Guy Coles has come to the rescue on both fronts! I wouldn't be surprised if a few people come unstuck in scrutineering for the Come & Try with those sort of things.

Buy one roll of blue tape between you for the triangle. Should be able to borrow gloves (I only have one pair and they get sweaty!)

Does it need to be full hand covered glove? I have gym gloves where fingers are exposed..

Yes if they are requiring gloves they will need to be FIA approved and as such fireproof, probably nomex (standard FIA 8856-2000).

Possibly some forumites who are going might be happy to lend some?? I only have the one pair unfortunately.

There is usually a vendor at the event selling equipment as a last resort.
