**Esses Hillclimb - Mount Panorama - 25 August 2013

Postby Tony » Mon Aug 05, 2013 4:38 pm

Gidday everyone,

The Bathurst Light Car Club is holding a multi-club hillclimb on the Esses course at Mout Panorama on Sunday 25 August 2013.

At the monthly club meeting last week we were informed that they currently have only nine entries and that twenty five entries are required or the event will be cancelled.

So here's a call to arms for those of you that have harboured a desire to drive at speed on at least a portion of the Mount Panorama circuit. I could almost guarantee that we'll get in six runs which isn't bad value for the $125 entry fee.

Supp Regs and entry form available here: http://bathurstlightcarclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/Hillclimb-Supp-Regs-Entry-28-Aug-2013.pdf

Scrutineering is same as for club days at Eastern Creek.

Please spread the word within your networks, as the last two club speed events at Mount Panorama have been cancelled due to lack of entries.

We've got lots of spare beds, so I'm happy to provide accommodation on the Saturday night for anyone that's up to making the trip out West.

I look forward to hearing from you...

Well that was a fun day and my First Hill Climb event.

Was quite interesting doing it on the not so grippy Kumho KU31 road tyres. Very hard to get off the line without either bogging the car, or frying the tyres.

Managed to get down to 32.5s in the un-official 7th run. Think my 5th run was the fastest official run with a 32.8. There were only 6 official runs.
Fastest tin top was a fairly Modified SS Commodore with a 29s run, on grippy Yoko A50's.
There was an old Formula 3000 car with a Buick 4.5L V6 Indy motor in it doing 22's or 23's. Quickest by far.

I find it quite amusing that a lot of the regular hill climb competitors are happy with 4 runs and start packing up, where as my point of view coming from Circuit Sprint events is there isn't enough runs. Started about 10am(had to wait for the fog), and finished about 2:15PM. I was the only car that lined up for an 8th run, which didn't happen.
Easy on the motor and driver as you are on the track for so little time. A bit hard on the clutch and first gear though to get optimal launches. You can smell plenty of your own and others clutches burnt in the paddock.

A big V8(or any engine with a good torque spread) is definitely a requirement to pull you up the hill. A bit difficult with a standard SE computer with its known problems below 4000RPM and random surges and dead spots.

Thanks to Lou for lending me a brake Calliper bolt. I would say his sparing system is more organised than Mazda Australia’s.
And thanks to Tony for helping me out with this event, it's a good way to do Bathurst in small sections.
