Any comments on Federal 595's?

Is there a big tire thread around I am missing? There seem to be a lot of tire related questions so it might be good to have a single thread on suggestions and deals.

Anyways I need a new set of 205+ 16's for my NB soon, has anyone tried Federal 595's? I only did three track days in the last 12 months but I am looking to do more this year. Any suggestions for tires? It has Potenza RE002's on there at the moment and they came with the car so I don't have anything to compare them to. I don't do all that many km's, a little over 10k in the last 18 months so lower wear ratings aren't a big deal. Just after something with good performance for the price, not awful in the wet and at least somewhat progressive in regards to traction loss. The car is getting a wheel alignment soon as well, are the factory specs fine or are there better settings for a daily drĂven car with mild track use?

Thanks for any help :)

There was a big thread on the new 595-RSRR a couple of months ago, would be worth a read.

AD08R is the best street tire you'll buy

AD08's over 595 RSR's

However, the 595RSR's are not a true R spec tyre (like the AD08's). I have run them both on the track and as a daily tyre with no issues.

There are 4 Federal models with "595" moniker.

Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the RS-R/RSRR's. I found the thread on the 595 RSRR's. Being quite loud is a mild turn off but not a deal breaker. Current short list below (the prices are just what I could find online, if anyone knows of better prices around northside Brisbane give me a yell):

Federal 595 RSRR: $560/set
Yokohama AD08R: $920/set
Potenza RE003: $537/set
Hankook RS-3: $600/set

I realise the RE003's are somewhat a step below the others in terms of performance, I started looking at the RSRR's and RS3's as they are priced almost the same but suppose to perform noticeably better. Thanks for the suggestion of the Yokohama AD08R but is their performance significantly better than the RSRR's and RS3's to warrant costing 50% more? Leaning towards the RSRR's and RS3 atm.

At those prices I would go with the RS3s for what you're intending to use them for.

Re: your alignment specs - no, factory settings are not what you want. The MX5 is quite sensitive to alignment settings and you will notice a huge improvement in overall grip and responsiveness with an aggressive track alignment.

Factory alignment generally have a huge range of acceptable values, eg front camber is -0.4 +/-0.75 degrees. So you could have -1.15 degrees on the left side and +0.35 on the right side and that would be acceptable for a factory alignment - not what you want for the track.

Here's everything you need to know about alignment for the track: http://949racing.com/miata-race-alignment-info.aspx

Make sure you get it done at a proper shop that does precision alignments (eg they do track cars, race cars etc) and be clear about what you want, ie give them specific settings to shoot for. They may not get it exact as you will likely be limited on front camber depending on your ride height, and your castor setting will affect your ultimate camber setting and vice-versa.

^ Yep, I'd take the RS3's at that price for sure!

Where did you find rs3's for $600? I live in north brisbane and am currently looking for rs3's too!
