Enkei RPF1 vs Rota RB

Hi all

Looking at 15x7's to suit a NA 1.6 turbo.

I would be driving it mainly as a weekend fun car in the hills but would also see some city use, maybe 80/20 split.

From a weight point of view the RPF1's seems to work out to about 17.5 kg a set? Total cost of around $1300 delivered to SA I think.

I prefer the classic / semi-sleeper look of the Rota RB's, and I think the cost would be around $300 less, delivered.

However, the total weight of the set is about 8kg more I think.

Not planning to track the car but also don't want to regret the extra weight in the future and have to change over.

Your advice is appreciated :)

PS. Also considered 15x8s but I don't like the idea of the wheels sticking out of the flares / rolling guards / more likely to attract a defect.

Get the Enkeis, better in every way

rotas look better (or different pending the look youre going for) but enkeis are a better wheel

hold off buying new and grab a set (of either) second hand when they pop which is quite regular (unless you're super impatient like me).

also consider 6ULs, Konigs, Advanti's, and the usual JDM suspects.

dont cheap out on tyres as its more important than any weight adding you may gain with aftermarket wheels

+1 to ALL of this

Rims are expensive so if you have ANY concerns about the weight at all, buy the Enkeis/6ULs/Konigs... instead of the Rotas, otherwise you'll kick yourself later (as d3ck5 suggested, try and wait for 2nd-hand Rotas - it wont hurt the hip pocket as much as a new set that you may not like).

Get the 14x7 rpf1s. The flat face and lower (but still sensible) offest makes them better looking, they're lighter, and they were literally made for the MX-5.

Thanks for the advice all.

Unfortunately second hand light / new-ish wheels don't seem that common here in SA. Guess I will keep looking on here / gumtree etc and see how patient I can be.

I did consider 14x7s but apparently the tyre choices are restrictive and more expensive than for 15s? This isn't from my research however, I'm just trusting the advice of others.

I have rota grid classic 15x8 and when i weighed them, they were 5kg on the dot. Which is pretty light. With tyres its about 11 - 12 kg. 195/45. Daily dríven.

Hmm, 6UL 15x8 Gen 4s are 11.6lbs, or 5.26kgs, and you're telling us that Rota Grid classics are lighter?

I'm thinking your scales are WAY off.

http://www.racinglab.com/rota-grid-classic-001.html notes that they're 15.65lbs, or 7.1kgs.

You either need new scales or have some Rota Grid Classic knock-offs.

My wheels are around that weight, and they're 15x6.5 fully forged wheels by Rays.

Getting back on topic, yes the 14x7 has less choice tyre-wise, but I'd personally take that trade off, especially if it will never or rarely see the track.
They look so good!
