I, have a set of Toyo Proxes 17" * 215 * 40 ZR17 87W on a turbo mx5, which are wearing well and I am very happy with.

Looking to track the car occasionally. Is it best to have two sets of wheels, one for road and one for track? If so, what track rims, tyres, sizes should I be looking at? My car can be set for low boost 6psi which is drivable, or high boost 12 psi which is a bit of a monster for me.

I, would suspect on track low boost would be more than enough for my capabilities, so recommendations centred on packages for same is what I am seeking.

You know my answer regarding the set of 4 circular anchors that you have on at the moment

Me, since my car is not a daily driver (like yours), I would steer towards just one set of wheels and road tyres that can withstand track abuse;
1) less hassle swapping around
2) you don't wear through tyres either on the track or street-driving too quickly since it's not your daily
3) If you do get track-oriented tyres, there's a fair chance they will perish due to time (ie. lack of use) rather than chewin them on the track, hence money wasted... unless you take to the track in a bigger way than the 4-6 times a year with the club.
4) have you checked out the prices of dedicated "R" spec tyres recently?

My current recommendation for street/track tyres are the Kumho Ecsta XS (KU36). Excellent value at around $190 per tyre for 16" & 17".

I know your preference regarding wheel style, but I found something that may peak your interest. Check your PM

Ron my advice would be to get a second set of wheels and tyres for the track. Especially more so if you plan to use the car on the road fairly regularly. I would not expect to see more than a few thousand kms out of a set of R-spec tyres on the road. At their price that gets very expensive very quickly on a regularly dríven street car. Further more, road tyres cop a flogging on the track, especially with the power you've got. I'd be wanting as much grip as money could buy in your car

thanks for the advice. What sort of rims do you have. At the moment my car is *$(%)$ not track bound, leaking coolant again:( Spent four hours last weekend changing hoses only to find more coolant on my garage floor.......aarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Not a lot of coolant, but not something I want leaking on the track.

The NB8A rims mentioned are just standard MX5 NB8A rims - 15 x 6.5. I use Toyo 888's on them.
