yep they look fantastic, however i remember him saying that it adversely affected the handling and performance of the car.

Yeah they looked really tough on the car, but the handling went to sh*t. The car would under steer all the time, and also it was extremely hard to get rid of all the scrubbing.

The 002's also stick out the sides by about an inch, soo you will need flares to keep the police away. Too much work to do right, and at the end of the day your stuck with an MX5 that looks cool but wont handle like an MX5. I was alot happier when I went back to higher offset wheels.

I was using a 195/50 15 stretched onto 15x8 0 offset.. The yank guys dump their cars very low, roll/stretch their guards, and run crazy camber to keep them from rubbing.

They guys in America use them as 002's are very cheap in USA, something like $300 a set..

There are also problems with wheel strength, being soo cheaply made they tend to fall to bits instead of bending like a good wheel would.




As for handling, the car felt like it was a fwd when cornering hard, turn in was terrible, and having no power steering in the clubman made life harder.

You have to remember though that the guys that use them over there like them because if they hit something with the wheel and damage it, they have another one at their door two days later for $100. It'd cost at least that much to repair a bent rim here, so its probably not that big a deal that they break rather than bend. Unless you live thousands and thousands of kilometres away where it costs heaps to get a wheel sent over.

That car looks good, the 6UL wheels look like Australian wheels though. But the sizes they're available in are appealling.

gotta remember that broken rim was from hitting a curb while drifting, alot of aftermarket wheels will do that, probably moreso with thte expensive ones cause to get light weight they need to forge which means brittle (correct me if i'm wrong there). I think only steeleis would bend if you hit a curb sideways at say 50-60km/h

But yea big camber and big fender pulling is what they do, also running 195/50's on the 8 inch rim is what most of the drift guys in the US do to run those wheels.

I'm running +9 - lets say +10 offset rims and i love the handling, wayyy better than stock offset. You just need to get your alingment right, and suspension set up, no point running stock shock spring combo with majorly different offset wheels and weak camber numbers..

I only run re001 on front and kumho spt on back, still really grippy

the 949s are light and do come in great sizes... but they just look like something out of bob jane's workshop

I'll be getting the 15x9's soonish I think, once I've recieved some other goodies I'm ordering.

I'm finding it quite hard to find some decent photos of NA's with the 9's to see just how they sit though

From what i have read and been told by 949 racing you will need to flare your guards to run the 15x9's. They will not clear even if your guards are lipped.
Thats ok though, I love flared guards

On their site it says you just need rolled guards to fit them unless you go for stupidly wide tyres. I'd only need an extra 6mm on the outside compared to my 7\" +17's so I think a heat gun and repeated use of a guard roller might be enough to pull the guards enough, so I'll just hold off getting my car painted till thats all sorted. Not that I was looking at getting it painted on any useful timescale anyway. Flares would be nice but would kind of make it a bit obvious that I've increased the track waaaaay too much, and would look a little silly when running normalish wheels. They'd look tops with the 9's on though...
