Too Slot ... or not to Slot?

Hey guys,
Ive finally found some NA8 brakes and they should be here next tuesday ...
With the upgraded brakes on my NA6 is there a need to have the front rotors slotted besides them looking cool?
I understand the reason for using slots but I'm wondering whether I should get these near new original rotors slotted , is there really a need with the already bigger discs...
has anyone else with this upgrade found the need to slot their discs?
I'd just like to know i suppose.. before i go bedding in some new pads..
Im not really planning to race.. mainly just heavy hills runs for now...
Cheers.
Luke.

I believe the idea behind slotted brakes is to sweep the brake pad clean, ergo better \"bite\" from the pad.

In that case slotting will be mainly cosmetic.

Thanks guys, Ive got a mate here who has a mill and does it regularly.
Theres heaps of meat on them so I may as well get them done anyway... Slots for a carton.... sounds like a fair trade.. cant really go wrong!

Almost as dodgy as the hand drilled discs on my friends WRX

i'd say leave them as is & when they wear down to the stage where they need replacing, then get new ones already slotted

Heaps of the race guys slot their own discs so they don't have to spend the extra money.
I am one of them. Brakes are much cooler now. (Datsun 240K with solid rotors on the front)

If you want slotted disc go buy them rather than getting stock ones done. Remember you will be cleaning your wheels every other day though.

I would prefer to buy some slotted ones but I've just spent a small fortune on buying slotted 1.6L rotors and then decided to get the full 4 corner 1.8L brake upgrade.. and the 1.8L discs are all near new..
Hes not that dodgy..

he machines alot of the hybrid turbos around adelaide and slots lots of the drift car discs as well.. see how much he wants anyway ..otherwise im up for another $300 for front dbas..
I dont think I'll be hand drilling or grinding.. I would have thought there'd be way too many inaccuracies that could cause unbalance.... well i prob wouldnt risk it IMO.
Anyone have any experience or feedback on using the standard slotted dbas

compared to the 6x6 wiper slots...?

Just went to see my mate..
Front rotors - Machining... $20 for both (done by a brake place)
Front rotors - Slotting... $30 for both (my mate)
hmmm.. very tempting..

Update!
Just got my rotors back.. As i mentioned in my previous post.. just got my rotors slotted.
Here is my newly slotted standard NB8 rotor on the right compared to the slotted NA6 rotor on the left.
Very happy indeed!
Luke.

Nah I pretty happy with them i cant really tell the difference between them and the orig slotted ones.
Nah Adam, his names Kevin, runs a small engineering workshop in edwardstown.
