Urgent Advice needed RE: Tyres

Would these be safe to drive on?
Short story. Bought some 17\" wheels and tyres off ebay where the seller said tyres were near new and excellent tread. Two of them (the front two) have obviously been scrubbing on his car as about 2cm of the inside of the tyre is worn down below the tread. I'm going to email him to try and get a partial refund to help purchase two new tyres. That pisses me off cause the main reason I bought it was for thr four \"near new tyres\". :x

If I was still to use them, I'd probably put them on the back. :roll:

It's really hard to tell from the top of the tyre, is the inside \"corner\" of the tyre worn down?

Caused by running too many psi, which is common with 17's because you have to run such a tiny profile to keep your speedo accurate.

People worry they'll bottom out and bend their rim so they over compensate with psi.

I know I did with my 17\" 5zigens.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Another email sent. :)

For those who can see the pics, the gouge is most obvious on the third pic on the right hand side near the white bottle. On the upper side of the tyre you can see how much is gouged out which indicates to me more to do with scrubbing than uneven natural wear.

And yes, it is on the inside of the tyre. :cry:

No wire pokin out the sides - of course they're OK! Seriously Bevan - no problems driving on these - put the good pair on the front and wait till the tread dissapears before buying newies.

bigdog is almost right.... Put the two good ones on the front and these on the back, then make the tread disapeer then get new ones. And take pics

Ah now I see wot yer talkin bout Willis! :roll: The tyres have been rubbing on an inner guard bolt or something and worn a groove on the shoulder. Still no problem - if it had really worn away you'd see the steel wire in the bottom of the groove, so the tyre structure is fine from the pictures and safe to drive on the back. If you drop the clutch about a hundred times you can even the tread out so you won't notice it so much.... :P :mrgreen: :roll:

That'd be great thanks! :) I thought overinflation wore the middle of the tyre out though? Or does it get that hot that the inside peels away with the camber?

I've done a close-up on a higher res image and couldn't see any wire. I'm just worried about this bit still coming in contact on the road and wearing down to wire within a few weeks. :| Going to contact the seller and ask to go halves ($160 each) in two new ones regardless of whether I replace them or not. 8)
