Couple of problems

hi folks,

couple of questions for the learned amongst us.

1. Suspension bounce.

When I go over a sudden drop like a drive way. or a large bump, the steering kick back is quite severe. And there's a big rattle that comes out of the front suspension. Kind of like the spring is unloading because the dampers are worn out.

Seeing how it's been 3 years since I changed the suspension, I suspect I am up for some new dampers.

2. Clicking noise from front wheels

When turning right, I can hear a clicking noise that comes from the front right wheel assembly. Like a worn CV joint but there are not CV joints there.

I took the wheel off and checked the bolts on my brake calipers etc. Checked for play in the bearing and there didn't seem to be any.

Any thoughts ?

What, if any, suspension modifications have you done to the car? What model is it?

Depends how you drive the car, how many km and where. I'm not familiar with "parts unknown". Maybe the steering rack is loose/broken.

Bearing, stone in tyre, loose brake component.

Sounds like you need to take it to a reputable suspension specialist in wherever land.

It's a King Spring Coilover suspension, and a Whiteline 24mm sway bar up front. It feels like the whole wheel becomes unloaded when I hit a sharp bounce.

The brakes are AP 4 pistons and the rotors are 295 x 28mm 2 piece.

Hmmm. Don't know anything about King coil overs. A good look over by an expert is needed here IMHO.

With a 24mm sway, my money would be on control arm bushes (probably the lower fronts).

Get a large screwdriver or pry bar between the chassis and the control arm/wishbone and check for an abnormal amount of play. Usually more than 3 mm and they're dead, but the manual may have specific tolerences listed.

Would also be a good idea to get it up on a hoist and run over it with a socket or two.

Are you on std or aftermarket wheels ?

I'm starting to get some clinks and clunks too.

Perhaps we need our cars on the hoist at the next 2nd Wed of month afterwork meeting at Wheelspin?
