Picked up all the parts yesterday, the caliper frames that the slider bolts mount into looks slightly strange...

Turns out they've given me the wrong ones. They look like they're for an NB8A :cry:

So off to Mazda again today to source the right ones. I have taken one off the car to take in for comparison.

The new lower slider pins have a funny looking rubber insert on them, which I didn't retrieve on the seized slider bolt we managed to remove, no wonder it was so difficult to get out!

Yeah, the funny looking rubber insert was the bit I was after Caffeine. So it comes with the new slider pin?

Correct :)

Turns out my new frames are for the NB8B auto, which has smaller brakes :(

Also, there's only 1 mounting frame in Australia, and it's in Melbourne of course. That should be here tomorrow, and I'll be back on the road :D (I'll clean up the frame we managed to get the seized bolt out of)

Ahhh, the advantages of having a fully staffed mechanical engineering workshop next to your office :D

The seized slider pin has been removed, and the frame bore cleaned and polished ready for the new pin :mrgreen:

I'll clean and polish the other one tonight, and then pick up the new one tomorrow. I'll have 3 frames then!

The bore on the one Rodd and I managed to remove has been scored pretty badly so I'll keep that as a spare and install the new one in its place...

Should be back on the road tonight, with new pads and braided lines, should stop bloody well again! Woohoo!!! :D 8)

HOLY SNAPPING DUCK sh*t!!!!! :shock:

Best brakes I've ever used! :mrgreen: 8)

Those hawk pads are awesome! I took the car for a gentle trip round the block, with 10 or so medium brake applications from ~80km/hr to ~30km/hr, then let them cool for 15 minutes. Now even a slight poke with my big toe sees me heading for the inside of the windscreen :shock: :twisted:

They get even better when you get heat into them at the track.


Had a chance to try them out from a higher speed exiting the M2 this morning, they are very very awesome, easily getting the ABS to kick in, even with the RE001's. Good feel, easy to modulate, and so so powerful!

Now the tyres are the limiting factor for the brakes :D

I think the OEM pads are a little beneath the treatment they get from me; the car is only used weekends and trackdays/club runs/mountain runs etc. So they are ALWAYS used hot.

I'm going to give the whole system a god look over to make sure I'm not in the same boat as Caff was. The car only has 55k on it though, so I doubt it.

are you just after the rubber seal kit? coz if so, i just bought 2 sets from mx5parts.co.uk. they are cheaper than buying from mazda , altho i've been told you can find them cheaper again on ebay. my parts should be arriving in the next few days so hopefully my brake issues will soon be sorted out too.

this works for all models 1989-2000, not sure if they have a similar item for later models.

Those parts pictured definitely won't fit the NB8B brake system.
