I would stay away from chrome. One of the problems -high quality hard to get from my exp. Many platers hv gone due to environmental demands and OE std at least on metal is hard to source- what you see is not a measure of how long it lasts. High std of polish required first before cu ni and cr and if it deteriorates it is not fixable. Many restorers grumble about metal cr bits failing. Polishing is possible but you will hv to keep up the metal polish. Not sure if a clear coat retains same lustre as polished. Pntg is normal process and prob least expensive - todays paints are very high perf and you can match and repair.
