Which Brake Pads?

Ive got an NB8A, and marcusus it's definately a clunk clunk sound, it sounds like the exhaust hangers are hitting something, or similar to that.

Hmmm... mine's more half half. It groans a bit when it does it on mine. Does yours do it proportional to the speed you're going?

isnt Redline Lightweight Shockproof only for the gearbox?

In the 5 I recently put Redline Lightweight Shockproof which everyone raves about

Be careful because Lightweight shockproof is for the DIFF not the gearbox, its not good with synchros, its too slippery, use redline MT90 for the GB. Look at the Redline website (the international one). Unfort ppl don't know this when they rave. I still have gear engagement issues with shockproof and it feels exactly like the website says would happen, sychro's slip. Putting in some mt90 soon.

the redline site is so confusing when it comes to the lightweight shockproof to be used in the gearbox...

im going to chuck it in anyway and see how she goes....from all my research so far, no one has had negative comments about the lightweight shockproof in the '5's gearbox - just hearsay.

update on the pads and gbox fluid:

have now had light weight shockproof in there for 2 days and took it for a long spin....and WOW the shift is so precise and a lot smoother....all the hear-say about synchros crunching has not happened no matter how hard/quick ive shifted! in-fact, the quicker i shift, the more precise it feels now!

also managed to source genuine japanese brake pads(with all the shimmies/anti-rattle clips) which were quite pricey($200/pair) but wow does she stop on a dime now! and also got rid of all the front end brake clunks ive been complaining about

I've had both pads the re-boxed bendex from the dealer and the OEM ones from mx5 parts uk.

Both have good feel and stop well on track but OEM ones from UK are less dusty.

Good to see the light weight oil is doin wonders for you man, if you clean that magnetic drain plug you save a couple of ounces of dead weight.

FWIW, I've been using the Superlight Shockproof (the yellow labelled bottle) in GB & diff (Torsen LSD) for almost 2 years. I emailed Redline Aust ref using it in the GB AND DIFF, & they advised it would be suitable for both. Then again, as you note, I guess they would as that's consistent with their website, but not the international one... Anyhow, it's been fine.
