I was thinking it would be very easy for the dealer to save a few dollars and just tell you they had the alignment checked (while you cat say in their carpark all day).

Did they give you a print out of the before and after alignment figures?

It would be interesting to compare you alignment stats with other NC owners.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

would you not agree Geoff, there are ways to go about asking for help, & ways NOT to go about asking for help?

you know me well enough by now to know that if ANYONE genuinely asks me for a hand, they get it. no questions asked.

Actually, I was going to make a point of bringing this up at the next run. I found your post unlike you and very defensive. I think you got the wrong impression entirely. I'll send you a PM instead.

But yes, you are always willing to share wisdom...

on a positive note, have you wandered down to a Mazda dealership and taken another MX5 out for a blat. Least you'll know if the problems are only with your car or it is as the service guy has suggested \"no fault can be found\".

That seems a little disingenuous. Ive re-read the original post that seems to have so incurred your ire and for the life of me I cant see what you are so upset about. Ive stated the facts as I see the them, offered some background on my history with this car and MX5s generally, asked for opinions from people on this Mx5 web board who have some experience with the Mx5 chassis.

Im at a loss to understand what you find "negative and snotty" i think you said? -about this. Must be that I said my Mx5 is a handling dog. Its a just a car, mate. I wasnt talking about your sister.

You have provided no indication that you do in fact know anything about the Mx5 chassis, and you just seem intent on having a whine. Please find another thread to do it.

What tyre pressures is your NC running?

I was talking to one of the guys from the club today who just had his NC alignment checked. Yep, out to blazes just like both of ours were. 10mm toe in and positive front camber. The difference after a decent alignment by specialists with calibrated equipment and trained/experienced operators is quite amazing.

I can well understand why AJ was peeved at the original post and at other contradictory emotive and colourful descriptions offered by Spaghetti. There are enough words to clearly give the impression that Mazda do not know their stuff. His car is is so bad \"that it is vague and wanders\" \"nervous on turn in\"\" is simply a dog \"\" while dealers are certainly hopeless with things like alignment\" and he does\" expect to be able to keep it in its lane on the freeway and to drive around a roundabout without the tec cutting in\". This is not a description of a normal NC and you would not need to ask others if their cars had difficulty in staying in their lane. The answers are self evident-.
What is remarkable is that the dealer seems not to recognise there is a problem but perhaps that is because Spaghetti stated that \"before I go to Mazda\"-- has he not done that??
If the car is as bad as described it should not be difficult to get a report or an independent assessment which describes in an engineers terms that the vehicle is not behaving as it should. Which brings me back to the thought is this just a wind up?

Holy crap a lot of you got out of the wrong side of bed this morning!

To the OP, your car doesn't sound right. I'd take it to someone you can trust to get it looked at.

I'd suggest maybe a dud shock absorber, which may cause poor wheel to road contact (and hence confusing the traction control etc) as well as giving a sh*t ride.

To the rest of you lot bagging this guy for daring to suggest his MX5 isn't perfect, pull your farking heads in  It would take me 3 pages of posts to detail all the problems I've had with my car.

This place is meant to assist people to learn about their car. To all those telling him to go ask other people who own the car whether his experience seems normal, I say that's exactly what he's done, and you've crapped all over him. What a nice way to welcome a fellow enthusiast.

I think some of the problem is that the alignment may be "within limits" but the range of settings is too broad. The car seems to be very responsive to alignment - be it poor or otherwise.

Spaghetti wrote:No, I don’t use dealerships for wheel alignment.

Generally a good idea. A search of this forum (using the Google function at the bottom of the page) will bring up some recommended aligners in your state/area. Your local MX-5 club, should you or your wife join, can also be a good resource.

Indeed, the dealer once 'aligned' my car to have 0.5 degree positive camber
