Hi all,

I've put a new motor into my mx and this one has a dodgy oil cooler adapter on it.

I bought a new oil cooler kit with proper fittings, however I now have a problem, the shaft for the oil filter is waaaay to long.

I have my old engine, does anyone know how to change this shaft as it doesn't seem to have any obvious way that it screws on etc. ???

Most oil coolers use a sandwhich plate, and a threaded extender piece.

Usually the extender has a hex head about halfway down, one end screws onto the block filter thread, and the other is threaded to accept the filter. the sandwhich plate is what they squeeze together to provide the seal.

The shaft is screwed into the block. Unscrew it to remove it. It may require two nuts attached to it so you have something to take a spanner to.

I had the same issue fitting a cooler plate on my NB8A.

The factory shaft(b) was too long, meaning the adaptor (a) that came with the cooler bottomed out before it pressed the plate against the factory warmer.

(Note: not fully screwed on here, but still a 4mm gap when it was fully tightened)

I just unscrewed it and took it to my local friendly machine shop and they shortened it 5mm on a lathe.

My problem is that it seems to have a custom long shaft on the motor for a sandwich plate the same as yours above.

The sandwich plate for the new one is thinner and therefore the shaft is too long.

I could use the old sandwich plate (which I have) except that I want to be able to run the AN fittings and the braided line rather than the rubber line and clamp situation with the other plate.

However given how the new sandwich plate fits into the block it can only point in a couple of directions which is making routing the piping a challenge as well :-(
