I'm easy. It is you that needs to be happy :) I gave up caring about what people thought of my mods a very long time ago, however I did listen to them (at least some of them)...

The only way to prove an improvement is to have a baseline and then measure the precent change.

I swear on my children's graves that when I installed the mania cold air into my stock NA6 it was a MASSIVE improvement, however it does not give an real gains.

Charlie Brown wrote:I have trouble believing these reported figures going on our Club Dyno Day (see results in the events section).

Given that a NB8B fitted with a Mania CAI recorded 79.3kW and a standard NB8B recorded 78.4kW, that’s a massive increase of just 0.9kW. Now where near the 3 – 8 kW the magazine is claiming.

Backing this up from Dyno day were NB8Bs with fully modded exhaust systems, plus CAI only gaining 4 - 5kW over the standard motor.

So if you are thinking of a cold air intake to gain a 5 – 8% increase in power I’d think again. The best part of the CAI is the slight improvement in throttle response and the better aural noises.

Ive been through Intake before and believe me I know what you are talking about. Ive been through so many intake systems and didnt feel anything. It is why i am now back with a stock airbox.

I believe you cant gain anything from intake. After 10 sets of different intakes, the only thing I got was noise but still felt restriction.

I look at most of these mods as such:

Buy them with the goal of sound.
Any power increase will then be a pleasant surprise.

Thanks guys for your personal input. On the other hand. Anyone keen for a stock system.

Only including headers (with heat shield) and cat that is in great condition. Has flange cut at end of it but can always get it welded or put a new one. Let me know if any of you guys are interested.

Yeah, agree revs more freely, which CAI also helped with.

I think when it comes down to doing your exhaust, from a performance point of view, you'll be happy with the gains as long as you're not expecting big power gains. I didn't notice much of a difference when I had my catback on, but after installing the headers and having the system work as a whole, the idle dip was just gone and the car felt much more punchier and freer ! Headers on the NA mx5's were definitely restrictive, I imagine theirs more gains to be made on the na6. I'm also interested to see what sort of a difference a loch CAI will make although once I put it on I wont be able to make a proper judgement since im also getting a hi flow cat installed at the same time which should make a minimal yet noticeable difference.

Yes definitely. The highflow cat is much more less restrictive. My stock na6 cat was i think 400 cell. And i change that to a 200 cell. So the exhaust gases travel much more freely.

So yes highflow cat is a good mod. Even shoots a few crackles and pops at high rpms ;)

With CAI Im not sure what to move on as ive experimented through so much and havent really felt much of a difference. But might chuck on a mania intake for the sake of it.

I agree. Happy with the gains as im not expecting forced induction type of gains. For what it is. Im happy with it. :)

This is what the setup looks like. Pretty nice and tidy. Might paint the rocket cover to break it up abit.

Hey aladdin, looking at the shot of your engine bay I'm guessing you could use one of these (shameless plug for a thread I started)...

Hahaha yeh only thing that kinda looks horrible. I guess every mx5 owner would have to live with it. Good idea tho. Very creative ;)
