Craig Cavies Thermofan switch

Postby OzGuvnor » Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:30 pm

Help,
Putting in a new larger radiator and I need to replace one of the original fans due to clearance issues. Was going to use Craig Cavies DCSL14 which is slimmer by quite a bit.

They recommend using a switch (either mechanical or electrical) to control the fans. I didn't check to see if the stock fans on NA8 run always, or already have a switch that activates based on temp. Which is it?

Also, is a switch worth putting in - assuming the stock wiring has none?

Thanks.
OzGuvnor.

Stock fans have two wires each (two fans for cats with radiators and one for cars that don't).
Just connect to new fans to the existing wires.

All NA and NB mx5s have 1 fan that is ecu controlled by a temp sensor.
Cars with AirCon have a second fan that turns on when AC is on.

You can simply splice your new fan(s) into the stock fan wiring.

My post should read that cars with AC have two fans and cars that don't have one.
All cars should have radiators...

Understood. Also my subject should read Craig Davies not 'Cavies'. Small phone, fat fingers.

I have AC and both fans are different models.

I believe NA6s have a separate thermostat fan switch in the thermostat housing.
