Hi, first time poster ...
bit of background -
Currently drive and race in sprint a 2007 Elise, supercharged - having a lot of fun, but want to 'do more' racing. as the elise is a road car i cant really go any further than i currently have with the current modifications...
so, am looking at a cheap (ish) entry into a track only car ..
a turbo'd na6 seems to be a good option after some slight internal work, stripping, stiffening, cage etc etc ..
question is this - what should i expect to budget for an import na6 - obviously i dont care about it being road registered ....
part of the point of this is a project - i dont want an 'already prepped' car, i want to take a std car and do all the work myself ...
thanks in advance for your advice
Barry

Hi Barry
if it's to be race only contact the forum sponsors mx5mania to see what unregisterable imports they have. They are in Sydney & may not have NA's but worth a call. There are others importing but more of the newer models prob.
Where r u based?
Welcome to the forum.
Cheers
Peter

am in sydney ...
looks like i can get a car for about 200,000 yen + 100,000 or so for shipping etc, about 3.5k AUD - but got worried about dotars giving me an import permit ...
taken from dotars webby :
Will this vehicle be used solely for closed circuit racing/rally?
Import applications for rally/race use will only be considered where the vehicle will be used in serious competition, generally at professional level. Where a particular vehicle model is readily available in the Australian market, an import approval will not be granted unless there are compelling reasons to justify why it is necessary to import a vehicle to compete in events in Australia. The fact that a vehicle may be on an eligibility list for an event is not, of itself, a reason to justify the granting of an import approval.
anyone had experience doing it ?

From my experience, you've got no chance.

I may have what youre looking for:
i have and have had since 1993 (one other owner) Red 1990 NA with an 1.8L AVO stage 2 kit (148.5 rwkws) which has been defected for roll cage, harness and large wheels. It was defected in SA early May this year and been stored since (being started up fortnightly). Im in two minds whether i keep or sell it. nevertheless there is a link below:

thanks to everyone for the offer of cars -
certainly some tempting options out there ...
however, as part of the idea is to build it up myself i really was looking for a car with no, or minimal mods - looks like the na8 will be the best way to go - but as i said before, i want to do all the work myself, partly to know the car inside out, but also to know exactly what has been done, and how it works ...
looks like importing is going to be just too hard and not worth the financial gains ...
cheers

There are agents who will import cars for you from Japan, normally charge around the $1000 mark. They seem to be able to import race only cars no problem. A couple to have a look at.
http://www.j-spec.com.au/http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/http://www.ozcarimports.com/http://carizma.com.au/I'm sure there's plenty more if you have a bit of a hunt around, you can tell them what you want and they will get there agents in Japan to try and hunt it down for you.
