I am considering getting full slicks for track days. I was wondering if anyone here uses them and could provide some info in what you got in what size and why. I am considering getting some dunlop 225 585 15's. Probably medium or hard compound. Also does anyone have any data on time improvements going from semi slicks to full slicks?

Slicks are worth anything up to 3 seconds a lap over semis depending on compounds and other variables...
The Dunlop slicks really slow down with each heat cycle and with age...I have had Dunlop slicks that have done 2 meetings and have heaps of tread left but are just total crap...so for track days they can go away very quickly and end up being expensive planter pots for your garden.
I have been running Kumho V700 semis on my cars lately...I have found they do not go off due to heat cycles...the tyres I ran at wakefield last weekend had gone through probably 50 heat cycles and had next to no tread left and I did my quickest time ever in the last race.
Kumho are making a slick tyre in 15 inch which I would like to try but can't really afford to have a set of wets lying around so I will stick with the Semis...

brilliant answer - exactly what I needed. So why did you choose the V700 over the V70A? would something like the 710 heat cycle nicely?

The tyres I have are the V70A...I have tried a lot of different tyres and these are one of the best I have used and is the one I would recommend to anyone planning to buy track tyres.

Yeah the kumho's have gone up. I remember a year ago being quoted $280 a tyre for 205/50/15's. They have gotten a pretty good reputation though, I've seen a lot of the supersprinters using them.

I was quoted $340 for them in Brissy when I asked about a group buy. I have been told elsewhere that they are the best semi available.

That is all i have ever used and have liked them so far.
A guy in the latest Auto Action Magazine has them on special at the moment.
Not sure on size though
