From the 4th - 5th April 2009, Wakefield Park Raceway will welcome 300 challengers competing for the chance to share in an unprecedented $1,000,000 in prize money.
The inaugural Million Dollar Driver Challenge will be Australia’s richest premier motor sport event for amateur drivers.
Unlike other motor sport events, The Million Dollar Driver Challenge is unique in that it will pit drivers against each other in identical track-prepared Subaru WRX’s to showcase the drivers’ true skill and ability.
The 2 day event will provide drivers with the opportunity to display their talents through both timed track sessions as well as challenging gymkhana courses to test their speed, flair, agility and car control.
Use of the track-prepared Subaru WRX, service crew, safety equipment, track facilities and catering is all included in the entry fee of $12,390 + GST.
In addition, entrants who pay their deposit of $3,500 by 15th December 2008 will automatically go into the draw to win a brand new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG sedan, which will be drawn as part of the prize giving at the conclusion of the event on Sunday 5th April 2009.
Prize money is on offer from 1st - 6th place:
1st Place = $500,000
2nd Place = $250,000
3rd Place = $100,000
4th Place = $75,000
5th Place = $50,000

$12,390 x 300 = $3,717,000

Total Prize money on offer = $1,000,000

Even after hiring the track for 2 days, a c63, a few WRX's and insurance are taken into account, the promoters will make more money than whoever wins :|

If I had $12,000 to blow, I'd do it on this :P

Could be good fun, especially considering how well NSW club members that participate in the club motorsport events would know the track. Although I daresay there'd be more than 6 people who would know the track and the cars better than many, if not all, of us that will be entering.

$12K plus GST. Wow. I don't think there would be 300 takers though.

You'd be amazed at the amount of money around to do this type of event.

http://www.drivebathurst.com/ has been sending me stuff for a while. $6K and you use your own car.

They sent a list of those attending the other week (and the cars they are driving) and I was surprised at the number of people racing around Bathurst in their Porkers & Ferraris. Took two A4 sheets to list the starters.

Throw in the chance to win some big bucks thrashing someone else’s car and they will fill up the entries without a lot of trouble.

PS I’m not running at Bathurst for the same reason that I haven’t bought a Cosworth supercharger for the NC.

We did the SprintBathurst event last year and it was worth every cent!! Over the 3 days we did around 75 laps at full tilt. The instructors were a who's who of Australian Motorsport (mainly Porsche & open wheeler drivers).

There were heaps of GT3's and other exotica. A few got "scratched" including one new 911 they dragged back to the pits and stripped another perfectly good car to repair it.... The tyres for these things cost more than our entries!!

Anyway whether you can do it or not, it's great to see someone prepared to set up such and event. I hope they do make $$ out of it - might encourage other types of events in the future!!
