Sandown's future, or lack thereof

This might be worth its own thread.

I have heard November. Any of you locals up to speed on this?

From the other thread, some more ...

Nothing to do with those residents, more to do with all those residents in the big apartment blocks they are going to build as soon as the horsey set moves out.

I understand that a deal has been done, is being done, or was going to be done between the racing (horses) club and the State Govt, whereby the horses get a new training track somewhere supplied by the Gov't I think, the cars get the flick, and the site becomes housing.

I'll see if I can find a reference.

Not exactly as I previously understood it, but then none of these are the original source I was remembering.

Surprise surprise the housing developers get their way, and the wasteful horse hobby industry gets a payout from the government.

I really dislike that people buy a cheap house then complain about noise. Its a racetrack!
The race track was there first.

The same people probably turn their noses up to modified cars too...

Sad but inevitable.
Here in NSW we lost Amaroo Park and then Oran Park.
Eastern Creek is owned by State Gov't and they are making money from it and it is surrounded by industry not residential.
Wakefield Park is hopefully far enough from Goulburn to be safe for a while.
We have a new Motorsport complex coming on line next year? north of Newcastle, well away from residents, hopefully immune.

The same plight of every f*cking race track in the country. Even Wakefield gets noise complaints, and it's surrounded by paddocks as far as the eye can see!

I really enjoyed watching the Sandown Supercars round the other weekend. It will be a real shame to lose such an iconic place... but how many times have we said that now?

I hear that all is not proceeding as planned with the redevelopment of Sandown, and the proposed replacement(?) motorsport precinct out in the burbs.

Any of you locals up with what's happening, or not happening?

Yes Paul, WP has problems with approvals and it seems to be going to court over noise.

Vic Govt introduced a new windfall gains tax on property which applies to Sandown. They were looking at a few hundred million in extra tax so last I heard they were in discussions with the govt.

The complex at Pakenham is progressing, albeit slowly, hopefully a better venue than Sandown.
I think all the approvals are done, tenders will be out soon to build after the first group pulled out.

This might be behind a paywall, but here goes ... https://www.autosport.com/supercars/news/supercars-track-sandown-gets-a-reprieve-after-board-changes/10660052/. Says 'immediate' future secure as new board takes control. Not sure what that means, may be just we want to renegotiate to get more money.

So the post above is three years old, has anything in it happened yet?

Just read a few minutes ago that the Sandown round for 2025 has been moved to Nov:

Yeah, Supercars 2025 calendar is out, some changes. Not sure if that is related to Sandown uncertainties, I am hoping someone who is following the stuff around the track and the Pakenham project will chime in to update.
