The hubs showed up on Friday, and were held hostage at the local mail distribution center until Monday.

Axle fracture at the hub end

This is the other end of the axle that had not snapped completely, but was visibly fractured. I gave it a bit more of a tweak so I could see what the rest of the break looked like. Some of the crack had been there for a while.

Had this had let go, the only thing holding the wheel on would have been the bearing (don't think there would be much resistance there) and the brake caliper holding the rotor.

Maybe. I did check mine and the bearings are in good shape for now. I’m only on 205/50’s with no big offset, and I’m not doing laps.

Mr Bosnjak can help though!

No love for the BMW hubs :? ? Less than half the price of Bosnjak (AUD$500ish landed, depending on exchange rate, compared to $1200 or so), off-the-shelf bearings.

I don’t really like the number of bits required to make them work, or the need to cut bearings to fit and have ABS rings machined - but they do look like a good option for strength

Will the Black Rat go as fast as the White Mouse?

I expect this is a non-track car? Just do it up for enjoyable regular street duties?

I’m am 90% decided that the goal for the Black Rat is to replace the a White Mouse for track duties. First order of business will be a full weld-in cage. This is is pretty much a one-way journey which is why I’m almost there but not quite.

The White mouse would still get to play but probably oriented to low risk events and road use.

Once I’m decided, the fun begins!

Edit: I hope it will be faster!

Excellent, sounds like a good plan. I guess this marks the beginning of "Chapter 3"
