Prod Sports round Wakefield Mar 29/30 2014

Postby mazmad » Mon Dec 30, 2013 8:44 am

A couple of us are planning on doing this event at Wakefield next March. Be great to have a few other mx5s on the grid!

(I am just turning a blind eye to the train wreck going on about this series on another forum and hoping for the best.........)

Are MX5's obsolete in ProdSports ?

Postby oztrackdays » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:28 am

This years rule changes make MX5's pretty much obsolete.

With Nick and Matilda out what was the last turbo MX5 that even ran ?

look at a sample race from April 4 out of 10 are 1 minute dead or better at race pace,
next year they are allowed to have an even higher power to weight than this year.

1 52 Ben Porter (NSW) Imak/Kwikmit Lotus Exige S 1800 A 10 13:21.8132 3 0:59.6083*
2 7 Ash Samadi (NSW) Apartment Hotel Mosler Gt3 2009 700 GT 10 13:23.7168 4 0:59.7641
3 3 Ross Lilley (NSW) Koala Furniture International Dodge Viper Gt3 8400 GT 10 13:24.8184 5 1:00.5779
4 51 Andrew Macpherson (NSW) Imak/ Kwikmit Porsche 997Gt3 Cups 3800 A 10 13:27.4601 10 1:03.0361
5 21 Darrell Dixon (NSW) G&D Wheels Nissan Gtrr35 2009 6460 A 10 13:30.9881 10 1:04.6592
6 73 Glenn Townsend (NSW) Gt Racing Lotus Elise 1998 A 10 13:41.9810 3 1:08.1754
7 10 Manny Mezzasalma (VIC) Ejm Motorsport 993 Porsche 1995 3600 C 10 13:42.4525 3 1:07.6677
8 75 Daniel Deckers (NSW) Deckspeed Racing Mazda Mx5 2006 2000 C 10 13:43.4014 10 1:08.6635
9 88 Christopher Deckers NSW Deckspeed Racing Mazda Mx5 1840 C 10 13:47.0126 4 1:08.6405
DNF 97 Angelo Lazaris (NSW) Prepd Lotus Exige Gt3 1800 GT 4 4:16.2117 3 1:00.3481

The MX5 protest vote against the GT3 was quite effective the response
was lock in GT3 cars and stop caring about MX5's who were once over
half the grid.

Daniel's NC development cars show promise but I think they will be nowhere
in a field of Boost without restriction and 2010 GT3 spec cars.

Yes I have seen those times from that round. If we get a few mx5s turn up there will be somebody to play with. I am we'll aware that there will be no silverware for me on the day :D

Nah, was blowers for them and apparently you have to know someone to have it slipped into the rules.

10 is the Magic Number!

Postby oztrackdays » Mon Dec 30, 2013 10:49 pm

Apparently if 10 of a matching configuration are made and it's registered then ProdSports say you can run it.

"Bullets" are eligible even listed on the CAMS form and almost none of those match and only 24 were ever made.

My Suggestion is a 3.6 Litre Engine Swap from the SV6 commodore engine weight is only 168 Kg and it makes
210 Kw at the Engine stock as a rock, importantly it is also street legal in a NC MX5 for displacement to weight rules.

I am building one as a daily so only 9 more needed :)

What other combinations might save the MX5 ?

Quote from one of the Lotus guys on performance forum.

"In regards to the slower end of the field. Now this is my opinion only, and it does come from racing MANY slower cars. If you feel your car is not cutting it, then it may be time to find somewhere else to race, or buy a faster car."

You see it's that easy, all of the Prod. sports problems solved...I'm just going down to my Audi dealer to put a deposit on a R8 GT3...
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Fair enough. Then can they please change the name to Exotic Sports and forget the pretence about production sports. It should be 100 cars not 10 required.

I like this summary of how it got this way:

This s$$$fight seems to go back when the big dollar cars started coming in in the early 2000's when there was some television on Speedweek for the category and those who played as little fish ina bigger pond came and played as big fish in a little pond and started pushing the old guard out, in some ways maybe to the detriment of the category as there are plenty of cars in sheds that are too modified, or built to late for historics, Group S and T, and are now way to slow for the modern fields.

Even Simpler

Postby oztrackdays » Tue Dec 31, 2013 8:25 am

New name could be Pr0d$port$

It's a Joke. Would be happy to change categories for example

IPRA allow engine swaps but don't sanction MX5's/Roadsters.
Sports Sedans Allow almost anything except MX5's/Roadsters.

Nah just a 3071r on an already turboed nb will do the trick or maybe a 6l ls2 that should annoy them suitably...

The Victorian Committee have taken a very different approach. They want to make sure that everyone races to the point where they have included a clause in the rules stating that they will make explicit requests from front running cars to ensure that slower cars do qualify within the 130 percent rule and are not threatened. See Driving Standards www.pscrv.com.au

So what does that mean MrsB? By 'making explicit requests of front running cars'.

It means that due to the wide variation in performance of cars in our category that the committee may set minimum qualifying times for the front end of the field so that the slower cars (within reason) are within the 130 percent rule. GT & 2A are invited classes. I don't think Prod Sports Vic share the same view that everyone should run out and buy a new (exotic) car, rather they are aiming to attract a good mix of cars with strong competition within all classes. Personally I was ready to bail after last year but am going to stick it out in 2014 because the committee are committed to make it work for everyone.
